As someone who used to do the Togo, I think they deserve a tip. Most people don't but when I used to get a tip I was so thrilled.

If my change happens to include a dollar bill I will put it in the tip cup.

Re: spinoff to do you tip at starbucks
a lot of times, the to-go person works at a lower wage (similar to the servers...but maybe not quite as low) than the rest of the staff with the expectation that they'll be tipped. i reserve my tipping in this instance for a real restaurant though...if it's a tiny place and it's just another server helping me out...i'm less likely to...but if it's someone's designated job, then i ALWAYS do.

I consider all those places like TacoBell and McDonalds to be similar to Starbucks.

well thats where you're wrong! its not like those places. you get paid like 5 bucks an hour to work your *** off! i worked at applebees and we lived off of those tips (and even a dollar isnt much to be honest, we had to split it like 4 ways) you have NO idea how much prep work and work you have to do with togo. you have to put the orders together (meaning get all of the dressings and breads and stuff that comes with it, sometimes make the dressings) and this gets especially hectic when u have 20-30 orders in you have a million tickets in front of you, you have to package it, ring the orders in, deal with the customers that come in, deal with the customers that are in the carside service (if you dont tip then, you're just cruel and lazy!!) its alot of work. i wish people would tip them cause they work as hard as regular servers, if not harder!

Re: spinoff to do you tip at starbucks
meaning like if i order curbside to go at applebees or ruby tuesday? then yes i do tip the people who bring me my food to the car (about 3-4 dollars) and when i go to chili's or another place if i see a tip cup i put like 2-3 dollars and whatever loose change i have in there.
ETA: i dated a guy for three years who manages a ruby tuesday and he told me that the to go people make more hourly than the waiters b/c it is to make up for being tipped less than a waiter does. i don't know if it is like that at applebees but that is how it is at ruby tuesday.

Re: spinoff to do you tip at starbucks
I do catering jobs. So, I know about working for a tip.
I tip but when it comes down to me going out of my car, ordering food or drink behind a counter, I dont' tip.
Then I would have to tip TacoBell, the florist, McDonald's, I would tip everybody behind a counter. Why not the cashier that bags my food (which I help by the way!).

Re: spinoff to do you tip at starbucks
I def. do i feel bad that those poeple have to make my order (i am the girl with the extra sauce all the time, extra dressing etc haha...)... so i tip generously (specially if its all in the bag per request).. if its messed up and they fix it.. they still get a nice tip. if its totally wrong and they are mean about it.. a small tip but tip none the less
as for starbucks type places if its my reg. place they let me cut the line, make my coffee early (like when i walk in the door) yup def. tip... if i have to wait 15 min for a over priced coffee then no haha..

Re: spinoff to do you tip at starbucks
i got paid 5.50 an hour instead of 3.30 an hour which normal servers make. but they bring home hundreds of dollars and we're lucky if we have 20 bucks to split for togo so yeah, you should tip hahah
