Not to be totally morbid, but this is something I wonder about b/c I feel like all my fears relate back to it.
I noticed a lot of us are afraid of death...(including myself)...what about it exactly is everyone afraid of?
I def have a hard time coping with the thought of it...I believe in an afterlife very strongly, yet I am still extremely disturbed by the thought of this life ending. Idk if it's the fear of the unknown or what...I can't quite put my finger on it. I was wondering what other people---whether you believe in an afterlife or not---------think. Do you think your beliefs help you or just make you more confused?

Re: spinoff to fears
I have a fear of myself or someone I love being killed by the hands of another person.
This is deeply rooted in my father being a cop and having the knowledge and fear that he might not come home. And some days/nights, he didn't...because he was injured by a fkn scumbag on the streets.
So I'm not afraid of death, but of HOW death occurs, especially when someone else is responsible for it.
ETA: As you know, Jen, from our FM's awhile ago, my beliefs are not really rooted in one particular religion. So, for awhile, I did think that I'd be totally fcked in the afterlife...but now I think that as long as I am a decent person, I'll be alright. I believe in spirits, I believe that the people who have passed on do surround me at times, and that makes me not so much afraid of whatever comes afterward.

i don't fear death. I know i'm weird. I find that being ok with not knowing what happens next is difficult but ok.
I'm not religious is any way btw. I don't believe in god, but sorta believe in a beyond.

Re: spinoff to fears
I am afraid of losing my loved ones. So far thank God I have not had to deal with losing anyone close to me.. But i think if the time came, I am afraid of not being able to handle the pain.
So in the meantime, all I can do is appreciate their existence as much as I can.

Re: spinoff to fears
I'm not afraid of my own death. I'm afraid of losing any else close to me. I've lost both parents, both sets of grandparents and numerous pets pass on. I didn't handle the loss of either of my parents well and if someone else passes that I'm super close with anytime soon I don't think I will be able to handle it.
And I'm not sure what I believe in. I pray but I don't know if I believe in a heaven.

Re: spinoff to fears
My biggest fears are my parents dying, my FH dying and me, my parents or my FH dying of a slow death like cancer.

Re: spinoff to fears
My biggest fears are around the people close to me dying. I have basically no fear of death for myself. My thinking has always been that if I die, there's nothing left to feel, so what's to fear? But losing someone really close to me has been my biggest fear since I was tiny.
ETA I don't believe in an afterlife, but I don't really think that it would change the nature of my fears. Since I have so little fear of death for myself, my fear of death for other people isn't around what they will experience when they're gone. It's about what I will experience. Now that I say it, that sounds pretty self-absorbed, but it's the truth, so oh well. In any case, my non-belief in the afterlife doesn't really play into my fear of others dying or my lack of fear of my own death.

Not afraid of death and Im ok with some people not being here forever - like when its someones time then its time. I have trouble with when someones here one day and not the next. and they werent sick or old or it wasnt necessarily there 'time'. I keep looking for them even if I had been at their funeral and such, like one day there just gonna come back.
