Spinoff to how many reception sites visited /// what sites did you visit??

Original post by AJsMommy122

Including the one you picked. Any tasteful coments about what you liked or didnt like about the other halls visited is welcome. Might help some people who havent chosen a hall yet

*ETA - I would start but I booked the first and only hall we saw!!
I knew I DEFINITLY didnt want russo's b/c EVERYONE else in FH's family gets married there.
And I knew I wouldnt look at leanords b/c fh's cousin had her sweet 16 there right after we were engaged and we didnt like the way the handled certain situations that came up that night. Also my sister was previously engaged and booked there... and wound up calling off the wedding lol

Here's what I did:
Milleridge Cottage My fiance and I had both been to weddings there and we really liked it. Unfortunately, they wouldn't budge on the 7 p.m. start time. There were a few other things that the BM was kind of 'this is the way it is' about and I was turned off. But I have been to a few events there and its really a great place. . . the food is great, esp the raw bar.

The Metropolitan I'm almost a little sorry that we didn't book here. The BM there was *so* nice. She wanted to negotiate everything- she even called me once to see how everything was going. My brother was at a wedding here and he really enjoyed it. The reason we didn't book is because there are lots of children coming to our wedding, and the upstairs balcony was too open. I had nightmares of one of my little cousins taking a dive. . . Its a different kind of place, very SoHo. I think it would be beautiful for an all adults wedding.

Fox Hollow I don't know why, but I didn't like it. I know lots of you girls have chosen this and I'm not going to put it down because it is a nice place and I'm sure you'll be very happy, it just wasn't for me.

I have been to weddings at:
East Wind Beautiful, but too far away
Westbury Manor Fh's friend is getting married there, so that was out. . .
Carlyle on the Green FH best best friend just got married there. I thought it was lovely. . . very pretty and the service is supposed to be A+
K of C in Oceanside One of the best weddings I've ever been to. Great food and service.

I called Harrison House, but they were very fresh to me over the phone, so I never went.

DeSeversky Center FYI: They took down the awnings. I guess plenty of ppl protested! FH and I both loved it- I fell in love the minute I walked in. Its different. . very pretty and off the beaten path. I never wanted a huge wedding so it was really perfect for me. I can't wait.

Everyone has different tastes. . . I won't post a review of two weddings I went to that I thought were horrible because I don't think you can base your opinion on someone else's opinon. Besides, I know how hard everyone's working to have a great day- unless you have a huge gripe, like the food was so bad you got sick from it or the valet stole all the money or the maitre'd felt up your mom, I'm not going to trash anyone else's taste.

We actually had a list of places that we both really liked, and since we are planning from SC we needed to do as much as we could online and then go and see the places.
We wound up only going to 2 places.
Chateau Briand
We werent too keen on CB at first-but FFIL told us we had to go and just check it out. We spent 3 hours with the BM and he couldnt show us the rooms b/c there were 2 weddings going on. We didnt really mind about that b/c each room as seperate bathrooms and they are in different sections of the building. We went back the next day and he spent 2 hours with us-going over the menu once again, making sure that we knew EVERYTHING that we needed to know-we walked out knowing that in actuality we were done searching but still went to JT just to make me happy

Jericho Terrace
I actually had my heart set on JT but we didnt need an appointment and wound up running into problems before we even met BM. I was turned off by some things

The Fox Hollow- We didn't like.
Jericho Terrace- We didn't like.
Westbury Manor- The room we would have, we didn't like.
These were the only halls we looked at and then we went to The Crest Hollow Country Club and we feel in love!!!

I only looked at two:

Three Village Inn
Trumpets at the Gate

We booked Three Village Inn because it was very different from your usual catering hall. We actually liked that it wasn't a catering hall.

Trumpets was beautiful but new and the BM had no idea what he was doing. He actually told me and FH that if guests didn't finish their drinks before ordering another, they would be told they can't have more until they finish what they have already.
COULD YOU BELIEVE THAT?!?!??!?!?

Me too! I called to make an appointment, she told me how much it was per person in a really snotty way. I said I'd call back, I never did.

In the order we looked:

The Woodlands-great menu, great BM, the ballroom was ann odd shape for us and the dance floor would have been to small

Carlyle on the Green-walked in and new I had to have my wedding there, but we looked at some more halls before making the final decision, you never know what else is out there

Hamlet Windwatch-Really nice BM, great price and the menu was good. Not too crazy about the room setup

The Hamlet in Commack-I liked this place a lot, the ballroom was really pretty and I liked the way the CH would be set up. The bridal suite was awesome, with a huge flat screen tv.

The Bourne Mansion-Really beautiful, but expensive with that site fee. Didn't have a lot of available dates left for us. I also though the bridal suites couls use some updating

Harrison House-great place with the hotel and bar there, but the guy we met with could not care less about being there and didn't even try to sell the place. Completely turned me off, and he was 1/2 hour late for our appt.

Carlyle was where we booked.

Swan Club First one we saw and booked it 2 weeks later after seeing 8 others. We loved it...the grounds are beautiful and the price is great!

Westbury Manor..Second one we saw...It is beautiful BUT the BM we met with wanted us to book it that day and that turned us off.

Crest Hollow CC...It was ok..Just too much going on at one time

Sand Castle..My FI lives in the area so he didnt want to get married here. But the upstairs room is beautiful.

Carltun on the Sound (Form Sail Harbor)
I was unimpressed and the BM was obnoxious all he kept saying was that it was the sister of The Carltun in Eisenhower Park. It was also too small for us.

Riviera..The BM was awesome and very helpfu. Wasn't crazy about the layout of the room and it was a little dark for a summer wedding. I think it would be beautiful for the winter.

Woodbury CC...Menu was impressive it just wasn't for us

Millerage Cottage- This was our second choice...I have always loved the Millerage but it was expensive and the Swan Club gave us more for our money

Chateau La Mer..My FI loved this place. It was a little to glitzy for my taste and ulimately it was just too far for us.

We looked at so few places because by the time we started looking in NY, we had already looked at about 25 places in Boston and I was getting irritated with the whole process. I sort of wish I hadn't made such a hasty decision, but whatever...

Harrison House - Thought it was nice, but didn't like how the CH was in many different rooms inside if the weather was poor. We also thought it was a little pricey...

Carlyle on the Green - Very pretty, but the guy we met with just totally rubbed me the wrong way...

Marina Del Rey - Way too hard to navigate the neighborhood, especially trying to get back to the Throgs Neck Bridge...I grew up in Queens, and got lost there for over an hour!

Atlantica-LOVED IT!!! I still wish I had booked it. My FH and MoH thought the dance floor was too small, and didn't like that the CH would be under a tent even if it was sunny out. My parents thought it would be too expensive for guests to get hotel rooms in the area. Overall, it was exactly what I've always dreamt of for my wedding, but my FH really didn't want to have it somewhere 'beachy.'

Waters Edge - Loved it, but wasn't a huge fan of having to pay for valet parking for each individual car...Kind of thought that should've been included. Was also nervous that guests would get lost on the way to or from the reception.

Westbury Manor- Really liked it, but just went to too many sweet 16's there when I was in H.S.

Jericho Terrace - We ultimately went with JT...Liked the Dome Room and thought the food was good. Were very impressed that they let us tour the kitchen and sample food when we looked at it. My FH loved this place, and I just went with his opinion on this one (I know, it's kind of a big decision to not really care about). I also thought that the prices for a Saturday night in the summer were really reasonable. Plus, it's only 15 minutes from my parents' church and they were thrilled that we could have our ceremony there...
