OK, so my FH is still in the process of getting all new documents with his last name .....all the new IDs and processing with the courts can add up to $$
What I'm wondering is when you get married, do you have to pay a lot to get new IDs - DL, social security, passport with your new last name or do you just show them your marriage certificate and voila....
TIA

Re: spinoff to new last name
I don't think you have to pay for bank card or anything related to cell phones, electric/gas bills... but I am not sure about DL and passport...
Here is a list of stuff I just found...
ps. if you have a creative new last name like hyphenated, etc... You will have to go through formal name change procedures (which is a pain in the butt according to FH)
Hmm they don't have that many good reviews... here's one:
'They do not save you any time at all! I thought that it would actually process this information for you- you can go to the SSN website yourself and for the drivers license you have to go in person and fill out their form (they didn't accept the one I already printed from missnowmrs) anyway. Complete waste of money. You still have to wait in the lines and you still have to fill out the paperwork - don't bother!'

Re: spinoff to new last name
you don't have to pay to have your credit cards changed. depending on your bank, if youchange your name or add a name, its considered a new person and some banks will make you close the account and open up a whole new one. double check with your bank.
the first think you have to do is when you get your recorded marriage license, you have to go to the county's office and request 3 or 4 certified true copies of the recorded marriage license (depending on how many things you are going to change) first stop should be the SS office since no one will change anything else for you without a new SS card. once you have done that, then you can go to the DMV and get your name changed there as well. they will also need a Certified true copy of your marriage license. and then anything else you may want to change, passports, etc..
i bought this for my sister thinking it was going to save her time and energy for he rbridal shower and it didn't. it cost me $30 and it was money i could have done something else with. all these websites are the same and worthless in my opinion b/c you still have to do all the legwork yourself

Re: spinoff to new last name
I work for a bank and wo do not make you close your account when you change your name but we do have to change everything over. We will not charge you for a new debit/credit/bank card but you may be charged for ordering new checks depeneding on whether you pay for checks or not. Important thing to remember when you go to the bank to change everything over is to bring your actual marriage certificate...NOT A COPY. Can't tell you how many times people bring the photocopy and there is nothing we can do for them.
