spinoff to receiving line

how do you PREVENT a receiving line, esp if you are getting married in a church?

my friend just got married and she didnt want a receiving line. but she was standing by the door about to take pictures and everyone kept greeting her. by the 5th person it wasnt like she could stop them... she wasnt very happy lol

I am having this problem. The only thing I can think ofis hiding somewhere and having my BP usher everyone outside. I guess it depends on the layout of the church, and if there is somewhere in the back where the bride and groom can hide out while everyone leaves

This was my dilemma, but alas, our DOC said she would make an announcement directly after the ceremony that 'the bride & groom will greet everyone at the cocktail hour'.... or something along those lines!

i was thinking the same thing. it was suggested i do a receiving line to welcome people to the coctail hour. there is a mass right after mine so i wont have time at the church.

but i want a photo of us coming out of the church and the crowd of people there and the only thing i could think of was to hide lol.

good question, i had the same! i asked Francesca at Dazzling affairs, shes a wedding coordinator
(and she had to draw me a description cuz i didnt get it lol)

ok, so you come out along with the bridal party, two of the gms or one should stand by the back doors and ask the congregation to give you guys a few short moments.

the bride and groom should go into the bridal suite or an area where the guests cant see you and then the gm could open the door for everyone. the bridal party should then help to move everyone outside. in the meantime, you guys could go back inside the chapel part of the church/temple to take pics. then when you're done, come outside.

OR how it is in my chapel is that there is a door outside which leads into the chapel area which leads you kinda in front of the pews (but there is like an area after you come in from outside before you come into the actually chapel.

Soooo, when you and the bridal party leave and the gm is standing by the doors, have your photogog/their assistant or someone else who you choose stay behind. Before the gm opens the doors for the guests to exit, go outside and then into the doors that will lead into the chapel (but into a little area before you reach the chapel part).
Then the gm could let your guests out and when they are all out, the person who stayed behind (or the 'door' gm could do this too) lets you in.

Now you can take pics while everyone files outside and when you're done, you jsut come outside.

Omg, see why I didnt get it!!!!

Re: spinoff to receiving line

I went to a wedding recently with no receiving line - the bride and groom just walked down the aisle and into an alcove at the front of the church. By the time the bridal party had gotten down the aisle behind them they had enough time to 'hide' from the guests. With no bride and groom to greet them, the guests just started walking outside and waited there until the bride and groom walked out of the church to blow their bubbles and get them into the limo.

It worked pretty well IMO.

This is what I am planning on doing. I am glad to hear it worked out well!

i was just in a bridal party where we did this for th bride and groom! we all formed a wall in front of them until the guest's left. they all still got their bubbles, then the bride and groom walk out and went right to he limo after the bubbles!
