I said open it and send the thank you! That way you get a present and they will know you have received it!

I agree. I have had some people at work give me gifts and they wanted me to open it and I figured since I got the gifts already I would get the thank you's to them asap. Especially since it's easier to write out a few thank you's, they don't have to wait until after the shower. Good luck! Go open your present!!!!

my mom (who threw my shower) hijacked all the gifts so I couldn't open them, called the sender to let them know they were received and that she'd be bringing them to the shower.

I havent had my shower yet and I dont know the proper etiquette, but I voted to open it now! And then send the Thank you with the rest of the thank yous from the shower.

This is what I would do. The people sending them know your shower is coming, and I would bet they don't expect the thank you until after. They are not going to think you forgot.

Proper etiquette says open the gift now and immediately send a thank you note - remember that the person who sent the gift has no way of knowing that you decided to wait until your shower to open what they sent - besides, why would you want to carry everything to/from the shower ?
