How many of you are taking your FH's name when you get married?
And how do YOU feel about 'marrying IN'?
I'm taking the name, but I don't really want to be Mrs. S... Sounds weird to me. That's his mom (and I hear her accent everytime I say it without my first name) and his aunt. In fact, his aunt and I will both be Mrs. Garo S
Hahahahaha!!!
And I have no problem with marrying into his family. He's marrying into mine... And I will be sure of that. Hard as they might try.....

As far as marrying in... it doesnt bother me... i dont see how its different than 'marrying' youre still his wife and they are still your inlaws regardless if you have his last name or if your Mrs. Blah...

Re: spinoff to the 'marrying in' thread
My last name was Shapiro. I liked the zip of my first and last name together. DH said if I wanted to keep or hyphonate my last name, he would be happy to hyphonate his; he didn't think it was fair that only females had to change their names. However, Shapiro-Bernstein sounded like a law firm to us . I hated the idea of changing my last name until the DAY OF...now I'm very happy I did it.

I'm taking his last name. He's not close to his family, so I'm not either~which is fine by me. But, we are both VERY close to my family and he loves it.

I am taking his last name even though I don't like it...
As for the 'marrying in to the family' thing I hate it. I don't want to marry in to that train wreck!!!!

Re: spinoff to the 'marrying in' thread
I don't like what my last name stands for (my grandma made my grandpa change it to separate them from the rest of the family...not very nice) and if I take FH's name then the name dies with me...which is nice.
But I don't love FH's last name...its technically pronounced like 'Skenk'...but it sounds like 'Skank' ...spelled like Schenck...so I'll just tell everyone its said like 'Shenk' haha.
Like I said on the other thread...I don't feel like I'm marrying in to his family because they don't treat me like I'm family. FH and I are a new family and we will add to that family whomever we choose...it will NOT include people that are douchey to either of us.

My sister kept her last name. She claims that it was because of her nursing licenses, but really, she's a feminist and just doesn't want to her it from me... Same with a LOT of the things she does... When they had their first kid and they were thinking of names, her DH offered to change his last name bc he had no real ties to his father... His mother has since remarried and said that she had kept her name for him but if he changed it, she would take her DH's name... None of that happened, so my sister is still M and her DH and kids are L...
I have always said since I was little that I can't wait to get married and change my name..

I am taking his name. I want too he isn't asking or forcing me too. His family isn't close so I wouldn't even say I am marrying in. I am marrying HIM and we are gonna start our own tight knit fam

Re: spinoff to the 'marrying in' thread
i am taking FHs last name. it is very important for both of us to have the same last name of our children.
i do not believe the whole 'marrying in' thing. i am marrying FH because I Love Him. does my family drive him crazy at times? Yes & does his mother drive me crazy? Yes. but us getting married is us starting our own family.
we currently live right downstairs from my family & very close to him mom so we see each other all the time. but as close as we are there are times when FH & I decide to not do something with family & we just stay in our little apartment. we are actually looking into moving pretty far away from our families so we will see each other much less often.

I am taking his last name...........although I like mine better
I kind of already feel like part of the family so the marrying in doesn't really apply....they have been calling me their daughter-in-law since before we were even engaged......
