Did you register online, or in the store? Does it matter which you do?
ETA: If you registered in the store did you do it in the actual store location that most of your guests would go to?

Re: spinoff to:Where are YOU registered?
I started my registries on line, then went into the store to add stuff. I don't think it makes a difference. I didn't make it a point go to the actual store where most people will be buying the gifts, I went to the ones that are closest to me...but now come to think of it they may also be where most people will buy the gifts.

We started in the stores...then anytime we think of something we run online and add it.

I signed up for my registries online. But I also went to the store so I can actually see and hold what I was registering for. I did notice that what may be in certain stores may not be online or vice versa.
You can register at any store you like because they are chain stores, and your registry will be put in the main system.

I started Fortunoff and C&B in the store. But we never got around to going to Williams Sonoma and I know their stock pretty well, so I did that one online. And I add/change stuff online all the time.

Some things though I do think you need to see in person before you either put it on the registry or decide to keep it. Things like china, flatware, dishes, etc. Those are things I like to touch and see first (I made FH try out silverware - it was very cute to see him fake-eat ). Even some small appliances too - because they might not be the size you think and you only have so much room in the kitchen. Good luck!!!

i started in the store at macys, fortunoff and bbb.
i add things online and have gone back to the stores occassionally. and no, i didn't register at the exact stores most guests will buy at. it really doesn't matter since they're all connected

Re: spinoff to:Where are YOU registered?
The first time I registered I went to the store. I thought the 'registering orientation' was such a PITA because I already knew what kind of china/stemware/silverware I wanted. So, to avoid them showing me everything, I set up my 2 other registries on-line and went back to the store to add to them. The people working at the bridal registries seem to be so pushy!

I opened both our registries online and then updated them at the store.
I did it in the store and I constantly update online.

Re: spinoff to:Where are YOU registered?
To go along with this topic, I have a question. We have not set a date yet (My profile date is cause I had to put something) and people keep asking my friends and even me if I have registered because they want to get us an engagement gift, even though we are not having an engagement party and even though we have been engaged since November.....makes no sense to me because if you wanted to get us an engagement gift why does it have to be something I registered for?? Anyway, I haven't registered because we have not picked a date yet and all the registries ask for your wedding date....should I register with a 'dummy' date and just for a few things until we have a definitive date or not register at all until we choose our date which could take a while!!!

Linens-n-things and Macy's...started both in the store, then made a couple of additions and alterations online. You should really go see the stuff!

I would wait, since sometimes it's hard to fix big errors to registries online. My FSIL had two registries at one of her stores (one was blank), and despite a couple of attempts to get one removed, it is still up (several months after her wedding!). What's the rush? Are you having an engagement party?

No, we have decided not to have an engagement party but since we got engaged I have had people come up to me and ask me if I have registered because they 'want to send me a gift' and that's direct quotes!! I am confused by this because I am of the thinking that if you wanted to send me something you would, regardless if I registered or not. And when I tell them I haven't registered the response is always..'oh, you should!'. Thats why I was thinking maybe I'll just register at Pottery Barn online for decorative things around the house and then let that registry fall to the wayside..being that Pottery Barn is not one of the registries I want when we do decide on a date and for my shower. So confusing!!!

Well, don't let other people make you feel rushed. I got that question a lot too, and I'm glad we held out until almost a year after we got engaged. Then we really knew what we wanted (although you can also change things), and we didn't feel pressured into doing it. In the meantime, we only got a couple of gifts before that, but that was fine...I really didn't want gifts from people who will also be coming to my shower and the wedding! Seems like overkill to me.

I think that when people say this - they mean I want to get you something that you would like and/or need.
As for registering, I know that there are seasonal items that are usually not available about 4-6 months after you register. Crate and Barrel is on a 4-6 month rotation. They actually told me that I registered early. I registered in February 2005 for my August 2005 wedding. But other stores have a longer display time.
As for stuff, if you know which china, silverwear, and glasses you want I would register for those things. But I would wait on linnens unless you see something you absolutely love since those types of things have a shorter run.
