Spinoff: Why do you thing married people cheat?

i think they are looking for validation from a memeber of the oppostie sex b/c sometimes the same person day after day can become just words and doesnt mean as much as being looked at threw fresh eyes, it is a boost to the ego and something exciting and taboo can add so called freshness to their life.. JMO, i do not condone this at all but i can see why it happens so often, not to mention so many pple originally marry for the WRONG reasons, therefore end up cheating

I think the main reason married people cheat, or any people in a serious relationship cheat, is because they're getting something from the person they're cheating with that they're not getting from their husband or significant other. If they're not getting something that they want out of their relationship, whether it be attention, or love, or affection, etc., people want to try and get it elsewhere.

There are many reason I believe why and each person's way of thinking is different. I wonder sometimes about this. is it lust, is it love?

I think it is definitely different for men and women. My DH once said that one of the guys at his work wanted to go to a prostitute just because he was sick of sex with his wife of 20 years. I can't imagine any women I know saying that. For women I know, there would have to be more missing from the relationship--a lack of emotional connection, no attention paid anymore, no time spent together--more than just purely physical attraction. But none of my female friends could really separate the physical from the emotional...

again it really depends on the situation

Sometimes, what i see most, it is because they take their DH/DW for granted...They get caught up int he newness, the excitement, the lust, the games of a new relationship.
Sad thing is that it never really works out in the end and they wish they never cheated to begin with and usually want the person back

I agree

That's true. When I was engaged it was hard thinking I would never have another first kiss--the anticipation, the excitement. You trade that for stability.

I think women cheat for the reasons stated before, like thier husbands dont pay attention to them or make them feel special.

From my experience with guys that I know who are in relationships/married/engaged and cheat or have cheated, the ones that cheat usually cheat because the opportunity is there and presenting themselves. And just to set the record straight, I would never mess with a man who was married/engaged!!!

It happens when opportunity knocks on the door of someone with a big ego and no conscience.

While I agree it depends on the situation, I think the root of it is always the same - immaturity in the relationship itself and immaturity in the person having the relationship.

Obviously it means there's something else wrong with the relationship - no one that is happy with the relationship cheats. However, whatever that underlying issue is, there are other ways to handle it. Talk it out, counseling or even ending the relationship but someone who cheats is just utterly immature and doesn't want to deal with reality.

I went out with a guy who was divorced. He once told me that guys cheat because their wives 'won't give it up' and woman cheat to 'get back at them'. Hmmm...I wonder why broke up with him

Re: Spinoff: Why do you thing married people cheat?

I think generally there are two reasons why people cheat. The first is when someone feels totally neglected or that they aren't getting something in the relationship, so they seek it elsewhere. The second is a breed of person who just needs to feel needed by the opposite sex. I dated someone like that for 3 years - he was sooooooooooooo insecure that whenever ANYONE gave him even an iota of attention, he ate it up. He needed it to feed his very small ego. I don't think it's just men though. There are plenty of women out there who *need* the attention to feed some type of inadequacy in themselves. With that kind of person, male or female, I really think that the cheating is inevitable, even if the relationship is just wonderful.

its not always not getting what you want...
prehaps it can be getting more and being happier. of course, there are ways of doing this but people just cut to the chase and get what they want.

i must of told FW this a million times... go where your happy but at least give me a chance to be that person to make you happy. No sense in waste your time and mines when your sad and unemotional...

some ppl that cheat that 'don't give it up' arent aware of it and could of worked on it to improve, save the marriage.

this is jmo

I think women cheat as much if not more so than men do. They are just better at covering their tracks. JMO.

Because some guys can't keep it in their pants, and some women can't keep their legs closed. I get really disgusted when I hear about people cheating. I don't like it at all.

i think a lot of people cheat because they miss the 'newness' of relationships, the excitement of that first kiss (or whatever), and bc it boosts their self-confidence to know that they're still desired. It's a no-strings attached, lustful action that adds sexual excitement that has probably died down in their own relationships.

I think its an escape thing. It's sometimes easier to avoid or 'escape' your problems than confront them.
