Spirit Airlines

Spirit Airlines

Has anyone taken a trip with Spirit airlines? We are booking a trip for next year and they have the best flight times at the best prices but I never heard anything about them.

Thanks!

Re: Spirit Airlines

They used to be very bad (always delays!!) but have not had any issues in over a year (they are actually early sometimes now!!). Best part - at check in you can upgrade to Spirit Plus (first class) for like $40 and sit in larger seats in the first six or so rows and a nicer snack & drinks. BTW, I've only flown them LGA-MYR.

Matt flew down to Florida on them last year and had no problems at all.

Thanks!!

I love the idea of upgrading for $40!

DH is a freak about getting to the airport super early so we could probably get in on that deal

yes, they are pretty good - I've flown them LAG to MYR as well. Economy but friendly etc.

MY aunt lives in MYR so we have flown it before...no Problems...

My Grandma flew out last Weds to MYR from LGA

Her flight was for 5PM, she did not leave till 10:10 PM< but it did not go into the air until about 10:44PM

The reason...Air traffic control...

Other than that, we have not had ANy problems!

I flew them to Florida a few years ago. They are good, the only thing is that I think they have a problem with over booking flights--that happened to my friend & I and they were asking people to give up their seats in exchange for a free flight the next day--I refused--my a$$ was getting to Florida no matter what! LOL

Re: Spirit Airlines

That is true about delays due to air traffic - because they are not one of the BIG airlines, they aren't always a priority to get a gate when their are major weather or air traffic delays. Years back when I experienced a major delay (stuck in MYR for 12 hrs!) - they ordered in pizza and gave everyone a free flight. And again, I think they were not being given a gate at LGA. I will say when planes have been delayed coming in that they are turning back around - they do try to get everyone off, clean it & flip it fast. I've never had a problem with over booked flights.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Re: Spirit Airlines

A woman I work with used to fly them alot to Ft. Myers or Naples Fla. The only issue she had was that the plane sometimes was late because it had made about 5 stops already. For example - LA to St. Louis to LGA to Myrtle Beach to Ft. Myers. So if there were any delays along the route, everyone got screwed.

But for the price you can't go wrong.

Re: Spirit Airlines

Delays like that can happen with any airline. Our flight to Arizona in Sept was delayed because it arrived late from where ever.

I wanted to be sure Spirit wasn't some crazy fly by night airline. The prices were so low I was afraid it was too good to be true.

Re: Spirit Airlines

Yeah unfortunately someone mentioned this past wednesday (last week) that was the weather Northwest got me in 4 hrs late to NY because they claimed there was a weather hold.

Anyway FH flew them a number of times last year because they were often the cheapest. He had NO problems with them at all

Re: Spirit Airlines

Actually I posted a couple of weeks ago about how FH left to go to Michigan. We he ended up flying Spirit airlines and the engine blew. Although this sounds bad, he ended up getting a free round trip ticket anywhere for compensation. So it sounds like they take care of their passengers if they make a mistake

Re: Spirit Airlines

I just used them recently for my trip to Florida, they have been in business for 13 yrs and I enjoyed the service. Be prepared to buy food they do not serve a meal on the plane, just snacks and soda
