Splitting the Holidays..... I know it's early

Splitting the Holidays..... I know it's early

Even though the holidays are a few months away, how does everyone work it out?

My family celebrates Christmas Eve & Day, so that will be different for me. I like the tradition of being at my parents (which I still call home) for Christmas.

How does everyone else work it out?

that's how my family does it too. I'm not married yet (obviously) But my sister has been for 5 years, and so far the holidays have worked out pretty good for them. Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve will be altered each year, depending on which family is doing something or whatever, and then Christmas Day is split. My family only really does the whole 'morning' thing. Eat a big breakfast, open gifts, etc. And her in-laws mostly celebrate Christmas NIGHT, so it worked out perfect for them.

Splitting the holidays won't be that difficult for us (at least we don't think it is). FH's family doesn't really make a huge deal over the holidays like my family does. This year, I'd like to have Thanksgiving dinner at OUR house (woah, OUR house ) and invite both of our families.

Christmas Eve is a big deal at my house- so we usually do that with my parents.

Christmas Day is a big deal for DH- so naturally we are with his family.

It works for us.

we have to alternate years. My parents live in Minae, my parents family is scattered all over, but granparents are in Ohio, and DH's family is on LI. This year thanksgiving is with DHs family and xmas with mine. Easter is still undecided. And when we do xmas in Ohio, xmas eve is with my dads side and xmas day is with my moms. We ahve a lot of splitting up to do!

Thanksgiving we split... Christmas eve is at my house (his family doesn't celebrate xmas eve) and Christmas day we go to my parents in the AM then go to his house for dinner and back to my parents for dessert.

However, this is the first year that he is working on all those holidays so I might get to spend them ALL with my family

christmas eve is when his family gets together, so thats what we do every year. and then christmas day he goes to his dads in the morning and then he comes to my house.

yay!! i'm excited for the holidays!!!!!

We rotate thanksgiving. One year with my family on long island, the next in Boston at his aunt's house.

We spend X-mas eve at my parents house and sleep over!!! then we open presents and have a nice breakfast in the morning. then we get ready and spend xmas day/evening with his family.

it's worked out really well. the only thing i miss is xmas night w/ my cousins :(

Chirstmas Eve is big in FH's family. It's also his dad's bday, so we will always be with them.

Chirstmas Day we go with my family.

All other holidays we will have to split up somehow. Since we've been dating he's always come with my family for everything. I like the idea of rotating though.

We do thanksgiving at both houses, first at his house, then we go to my house

Christmas eve is the same thing, go to his house first-dinner, desert, presents, then go to my house and do it all over again. Then Christmas day is at my house

We do 1/2 & 1/2 for most holidays.. Christmas we're lucky.. his family does a big thing Christmas Eve at night (7pm thru to midnight). The open gifts at 12 am. My family does an early dinner Christmas Eve and then Christmas day. So we do it that way. It's hard to give anything up but I guess that's marriage lol.

Christmas Eve is big in my family (yeah the whole italian feast of the 7 fishes thing) so that would be w/ my family and Christmas with his. I have no clue how it will be for Thanksgiving!

Easter: Dinner at ILs, dessert at my parents
Thanksgiving: Dinner at ILs, Thanksgiving at my parents
Christmas Eve: From 2PM to about 9PM at ILs, eating and opening presents. My family does not eat until about 10PM, and we eat all night so we go there after. It is a LONG day.
Christmas Day: Wake up for 8AM mass then eat at my parents, and go for dessert at my ILs
New Years Day: only my family celebrates so we stay with them. Same goes for Palm Sunday.
