i went for my second meeting w/ fh last night at the church..
i had alot of ???'s, the deacon didn't give me the answers i was looking for..
he said we can't throw petals outside the church.. it's a hazard
we can't have trumpeteers.. it's to cheezy.. they want to stay away from the reception hall feeling...
then he has the nerve to tell me that my wedding is going to be a production b/c i have alot of people in it...
OMG so disappointed from this meeting.
I have alot of venting this week.. thank God it's friday

i have been in the parish for 21 years.. i went the the catholic school across the street for 8 years... mind you i am not a devout catholic and don't go to church every sunday .. but stilll

My church didn't allow petals or tumpeteers either....
But to say that your wedding is going to be a 'production' is a little nervy.

is this St. Bernards in bergan beach?
if so, who is in this church now? I haven't been there in so long. (this is where I grew up and moved to dyker 6 years ago)

I agree - speak to the preist, not the deacon.
I am not allowed to throw petals either - which is a new rule because my sister was married last year and we threw rose petals with no problem! we can only do bubbles, which I heard can stain dresses.

see is exactly why i won't marry in a church. i don't like the idea of someone telling me what i can and can't do...and to actually have the nerve to criticize my wedding choices!!!
sorry you have to go through this. but i also would speak to the priest or Msgr. the deacon has no right treating you that way, and should be open to answering your q's.
this is why i'm marrying at my hall, and am having an inter-faith minister handle the affair. she's wonderful, and totally welcomes uniqueness in weddings, all shapes, sizes, etc.!!

That is so wrong for him to say that about your wedding!!!
I'm not sure if I can throw petals outside. I read on here somewhere that I cannot have a runner in my church. As long as my flower girls can throw petals down, I don't mind the runner. I wonder if that is possible...I better find this stuff out!
I agree with talking with your priest. You can have a totally differnt experience! Good luck!

he has no right to do that. i can understand not allowing certian things because most do that but to tell you it would be too much for all those guests is absurd

We had a lot of issues with the first church we went to. We went to another church and they are great 150% better. Pretty much no rules. If you are not happy maybe trying a different one will make you happy again. We did not have many connections to the church. You want to be happy!!
