Tonight I had my appointment with the head OB at my practice. I have not loved him from the first time I went there but his qualifications are AMAZING! My best friend adores him and I even brought her to one of my appointments and when she is around I see the dr that she loves but when she isnot there I don't like him. Tonight he informed me he is the one that will be doing my c-section. I told him I had a couple of questions and he made me feel very rushed answering them and asking them. I didn't leave there feeling good.
There are 2 other doctors whom I like very much. I have called and left a message for the other doctor to call me and I want to see if it is possible to switch my c-section date so that I can have him.
Would you do the same??? Would you go with a doctor you feel more comfortable with or one that has impecable qualifications?

Re: Girls who have a c-section I have a question and I am desperate for an answer please
I regret everyday allowing doctors I did not like/trust do perform my c/s. This is major surgery but also the birth of your child and an uncaring/rushed doctor is not what you need. I would NEVER allow this doctor to touch me. You DESERVE someone who cares about your questions and your feelings. This is a very intimate surgery and you need to feel comfortable with the doctor. Speak to the other doctors and switch your date. There are only a few medical conditions that would require a very specific date for the c/s...

Re: Girls who have a c-section I have a question and I am desperate for an answer please
Hmmmnn.... is there a problem with the qualifications of the OB you like? My situation was not the same but there are 2 OBs in my doctors practice - my OB I love and the other...not so much - at all. But he was on call when I had Luke and he was fine. (v-birth) However, my OB (the one I love) did my c/s with Tara and I was very very very glad. I found my experience with a c/s vs a vbirth was that I was more concious of my surroundings and who was there and what people were saying during the c/s - with the vbirth it was all about contractions and pushing and you really dont think as much about the doctor. Does that make sense? With that said, unless there is something wrong with the credentials of the OB you like, I'd personally go with him.
If you do decide to go with the one you like, ask if he will still be able to do your c/s if you go into labor before your scheduled date. I was scheduled for my c/s on July 19th and went into labor on the 13th. When we called the service, the OB I dont like called back and I said to DH 'sh*t it's Dr. ____' - but when I got to the hospital my OB was there and I was so thrilled.

Personally, and I might not be in the majority here...as long as the Dr is qualified (which I'm sure he is or you would not be going to him), and you are comfortable with his competance (sp?), I'd say stay with him. Honestly, the day of the c-section you are going to be dealing with the nurses and anesthesiologist...the Dr. will come in last minute, do the surgery and be gone. If you are REALLY uncomfortable with him doing the surgery, and another Dr that you are more comfortable with is available, then see if you can switch, but personally , again as long as he is QUALIFIED, I wouldn't strss about it.

I would go with the doctors that you are more comfortable with. Have you heard bad things about those 2? Or is it that you've just heard great things about your current doctor and you don't want to switch because of that? Personally for me going through my pregnancy and labor the last thing I wanted to worry about was if I trusted my doctor and if I felt comfortable with her. I LOVE my doctor and I totally trust her. During labor when she said I needed a c-section I felt totally comfortable with her. You need to be comfortable with the doctors.

Re: Girls who have a c-section I have a question and I am desperate for an answer please
Thank you all for the replies.
There is nothing wrong with the creditiantials of the other 2, nothing at all. The head one is just better known and has a little more training in certain things like versions and such but the other ones are licensed OB-GYNs. For whatever reason he and I just don't seem to gel. On my emergency appointments I have mostly seen the other 2 doctors and feel very comfortable with them. Neither my DH nor my Mother are a big fan of the head one either. My mother recently switched to the practice too and met with one of the other 2 and said she has never felt so comfortable with a gyno.
I have complete faith in all 3 as doctors, that is not the issue at all! In fact the one tonight did say that there would be 2 of them in the room but on the day I am scheduled that it would be a borrowed OB because neither of the other 2 are on that day. I just don't like how he makes me feel rushed and doesn't answer my questions. This is surgery and I have never been in the hospital (other than ER before) and never had surgery. I have questions that's it and he didn't make me feel great about asking them.
I guess I am letting my hormones get to me and I should just wait and talk to the other doctor tomorrow. I have never been in this situation before and feel guilty talking to one doctor about another. I just know that after the horrible way I was treated by my old practice with my miscarriage I need to be 100% comfortable or I will freak.
Am I wrong or am I being too hormonal????
When do the hormones stop??
Thank you all again

Jamie, I think that you have to be comfortable with your doctor. this time is as stressfull as it can be. You need a doctor that's going to make you feel at ease, if not then I would definitely change it.

It's a very tough call, and I think you need to go in there feeling 100% comfortable. I go to a sole practicioner, so I never had to deal with another doctor. Of course I always worried that he would be away or not able to get to the hospital in time, but you take those chances with any doctor. The important thing is that all your questions are answered, because the more you go in there knowing, the better you will be. I was 100% prepared, and would do everything the same way in a heartbeat if I had to. Good Luck....

I totally agree, you NEED to be at ease - If I were in your position I would definetly see about getting one of the other Dr's that you are comfortable with.

Re: Girls who have a c-section I have a question and I am desperate for an answer please-- UPDATED WITH MORE INFORMATION
6 days before my due date which was a Friday I was scheduled to have my C-section for that coming Monday. I was upset to begin with, but I was scheduled to have my section with one of the doctors I didn't feel comfortable with because she was the doctor on call. I didn't have a choice. My office has a lot of doctors. It bothered me so bad! She was just not personable or really friendly. She basically just did her job and that's it. Strictly professional. She didn't make me feel comfortable at all. Well, anyway I really, really wanted a different doctor to do my C-section. I lucked out because early that Sunday morning I went into labor, and ended up having my c-section done by a doctor I really liked. She made me feel so comfortable, and safe. I've never been in a hospital before so I've never had surgery. I was scared to death. She was so comforting, and just kept making sure I was ok. It meant the world to me. I had my annual last week and she was my doctor, and I thanked her again for making everything ok that day!
Anyway, my thought is to go with the doctor you feel more comfortable with. If they're all qualified, then there's nothing to worry about. I'm so glad I went into labor early!
Good luck!

I would suggest you go to the doctor you are most comfortable with. It is SO important that you feel 100% at ease and trust the doctor. During a c/s you have no control over the delivery and it is a very personal and intimate surgery, you NEED to be relaxed and comfortable with the doctor who will be operating. I unfortunately did not have a good experience with my c/s, not related to my doctor, and having him there knowing I could trust him was really the only thing that got me though, and after the surgery his compassion was needed as well. C/S seem to have become so routine and are sometimes taken more lightly then they should be. Definitely choose the doctor you are comfortable with, it will make a difference!

Re: Spoke with the dr- update!!!
I spoke to the doctor that I feel most comfortable with and I started crying as soon as I heard his voice on the phone. I told him how I felt and he asked if I had a special date I wanted, and I said no- I just want you to do it. So they moved the date and it will be done by the doctor that I am more comfortable with.
Thank you all again for the support.
