spray tan review!! *updated!*

spray tan review!! *updated!*

So I've been going back and forth in my head about whether to go to a tanning bed a few times before the wedding or if i should just try a spray tan (never had one before). I was worried about the spray tan not giving me a natural look, who I should go to yadda yadda. so I kept putting it off and thinking that I would just go tanning a few times before, despite it not being good for my skin, what could a handful of sessions hurt?

But my friend just got a job at the Red Door Spa in Bellmore and said she could get me a discount if I wanted to try the airbrush tan, so I thought why not? Well i got it last night and I love it!! I think it came out so good and it really looks natural!! FH thinks so too and he was originally against it!

I have to check how it looks tomorrow to make sure I still like the shade (they usually spray 2 days before wedding) so I'll report back tomorrow, but so far looks great and I'm wearing a white tank under my sweater today and its smudge free! :)

Thought it might be useful for a mini review in case anyone else was on the fence like me!

UPDATED: See below posts for more info! :)

Great news.....I had been going back and forth about this as well and I always wondered if the 'tan' would wipe off. I can't wait to hear the rest of your review.

Re: spray tan review!!

Thanks for the review bc I am SO pale and was considering spray tanning for my wedding but my sister's was good the first time she tried it and rubbed off on her gown during her wedding so I am very skeptical about it!

Re: spray tan review!!

Thank you for the review. I was worried that the spray tan would come off on my dress and then people would be able to see it!! I am def thinking about doing the spray tan!

Re: spray tan review!!

I am going to bootcamp tonight and wearing the white tank so that will be the real test! Will report back. Not that I expect to be sweating THAT much at the wedding (or at all, but let's be honest, I'm going to be dancing like a maniac) but I'm curious to see if it comes off!

Also, I doubt it will be a problem with airbrush makeup, I'm sure she'll just change the shade and it should go on fine but I would check with your makeup artist!

I only did half of my body for the test and I paid $40 including tip, so by my calculation I think that means the original price comes to about $45 (before tip).

Re: spray tan review!!

am also thinking about doing this!
have been going to spa190 in mineola for regular facials and they offer spray tanning for the same price. they suggested not spraying my face, which might break out - make up can easily be worn in a darker shade to compensate.

so i made my appointment for wednesday, the day before thanksgiving (wedding is on friday) - they warned me that there may be issues with my shellac manicure if i get it done the same day. problem is theyre closed on mon/tues.
was thinking i may go somewhere else for a spray tan on tuesday - hopefully it will last until friday!
thanks for recommending red door - there's one in garden city!

Re: spray tan review!!

This is a stupid question but do you have to be nuked or is it a machine that sprays the stupid on you? I guess I'm shy and don't want anyone seeing me nuked!

Re: spray tan review!!

Hi ladies!! I'm so glad so many people were interested in hearing about this I'm glad I shared!

Well, I ended up doing an Insanity workout last night in our living room. If you haven't heard of it, its like a crazy in-home bootcamp dvd series that is SUPER hard and makes me SUPER sweat. I wore a white cotton fitted workout tshirt and pushed myself to make sure I was dripping sweat by the end...the result...

no streaks!! No orange or brown anywhere on the inside of my sweat-soaked tshirt, even in the armpits!

The color today - looks even MORE natural then yesterday! I definitely think I will ask for the same shade for my wedding. I almost would want to ask for a little darker, but without testing I don't want to look TOO dark at the wedding, I mean it will only be April. haha

To answer some questions....

I got an airbrush spray tan that was administered by a woman, which I think if you are going to do a spray, pay the extra for this because she was able to spray all different angles and under my arms and my sides, whereas the machines are just front and back straight on. I only did the top half and yes I got na-ked (she said if I wanted to leave a bra on I could if I didn't mind lines).

As for manicures/shellac manicures, I have a shellac mani now and had it during the spray tan and its perfectly fine! After she was done, she took a baby wipe and wiped each nail and the palms of my hand. I'm getting my mani done the day after and she said thats totally fine as long as they don't exfoliate your hands. I go to De La Mer in Bellmore for my shellac mani's and they are good no nonsense mani's so I'm sure it won't affect the tan. (Getting one on sunday, will report back!)

Hope that's helpful to everyone! I am a fully converted believer in spray tans now!! haha

Re: spray tan review!!

Oh yea, a couple more things.

I got it done on my face and I didn't break out at all, though I know everyone is different. Might be worth it to get a test and see? If anything, my skin lokos healthier because I've got that nice sun-kissed glow. :)

One thing that might bother some of you though, is the smell. Yesterday (the second day, after 1 shower) I could definitely smell it on my skin, but no one else could. FH and I live together and he would have absolutely said something if he smelled it. It's not a bad smell at all, kind of sweet, and its how I would smell from the lotions I used when I used to tan anyway. Today (day 3 after 2 showers) is MUCH better and I can only smell a hint of it if I put my arm up to my nose.

Not a dealbreaker for me but thought I'd mention it!

Re: spray tan review!! *updated!*

this is awesome!!!

thank you for calming my nerves about the shellac manicure. would you recommend getting both done the same day - mani first, then tan? or should i do the tan a day earlier?
and i would love if you could let me know how it looks tomorrow - the 3rd day. if i were going to do my tan a day earlier, it would be 3 days before my wedding.

Re: spray tan review!! *updated!*

yes please let me know how it works on the 3rd day. I am getting married next saturday and getting air brush tanned on wednesday night.

I am getting my pedi on wednesday before the spray tan. Because your feet and legs have sit in warm/hot soapy water water and that is advised against with an air brush tan. Plus, they exfoliate your legs...not recommended. I plan on getting my mani the day before the wedding.

I have air brush tanned in the past, some tricks to making it last longer: Take warm NOT hot showers and make sure you are not in there too long! Use baby soap in the shower and baby lotion after. Avoid sweating as much as you can. :)

Re: spray tan review!! *updated!*

Thank you so much for the updated review. I am def going to look into this more. I did get one once back in 2006 and I felt like I looked silly bc I am use to being so white. My MUA does it so I am going to call her and try it over the Summer since I have plenty of time!!!

Just thought I'd add: Do NOT use Dove soaps in the shower. They have something in them that creates streaks. Glad you enjoyed it!
