Square footage of houses...
What would you say is a comfortable amount to live (3-4 people)? I have NO idea...1200? 2000?

our last house was 1730 square feet and it seem really cramped once the baby came.( with all his baby stuff) Our new house is 2400 sq feet and it seems soooooo empty. I remember growing up in a small 3 bedroom apt in the city and it never bothered me then. I guess it depends on your comfort level. I can't wait for our first family gathering in our new house then I see the difference before it really uncomfortable to have my family over. It seemed like we were sitting on top of one another.
Thanks for the response. In your first house, were the rooms just small, or were there fewer rooms? Did your first house have an EIK, LR, DR, and Den?
I believe that anything over 2000 is what you need for comfortable living. we have looked at a couple of homes that were 1800 & they were cramped...
The bedrooms were on the big side. We had an EIK no Formal DR and no Family room. We had a huge unfinished basement we could have finished it but we decided not to and look for a larger home because we plan on having more than 1 child. Our old house was a 3 bedroom.
OK, so I assume a finished basement will then add additional square footage to the house, right?
that's the thing...I lived in a NYC studio for 5 years so of course, any house seems HUGE to me!
Now our house is 1800 sq ft and its cramped... we are expanding next year to make the house about 3500 sq ft which should be great for 2 kids!
