Square Invitations = No No????

Square Invitations = No No????

I just stopped the post office to pick up some stamps (btw - saw the new love stamps which were WAY to 'cutesy' for my taste.) and inquired about postage for square wedding invitations. They advised me against ordering square invites because even if I hand cancel them they still have to go through a sorter and more often than not the squares will jam and potentially damage the invite.

Has anyone else heard this? Unfortunately, I feel in love w/ a square invite and now I am unsure if I should order them.

They may be right. My dad is a mailman and complains that he has to deliver ripped mail all the time because they get stuck the machines (sometimes catalogs or envelopes of different sizes or papers)

Edited to say: Maybe your particular post office has received a lot of complaints from brides whose invites were ruined and now they are warning people to proceed at their own risk.

my invites are square. never heard of this but at this point, and the fact that they are already in my apt, nothing i can do about it.
also, out of the 7 invites we received this past summer 5 of them were square and they all arrived to my apt in perfect condition. so we'll just keep our finders crossed on that note!!

the girl at the post office said she just got married and her dad (also works in the post office, but diif branch) told her that under no circumstances should she order square invitations.

however, the guy working there told me that if they are hand cancelled they are not supposed to go through the machine.

I had mine square ones hand stamped at the Hicksville PO.

Not only did most of my friends/family receive them super quick but they all told me they were in perfect condition. My invitations had rhinestones on them too, and from what I hear, they were in perfect shape.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, just make sure they hand cancel them.

Happy Planning

I wouldn't worry. I've received plenty of square invitations in the past and they all come thru just fine.

Re: Square Invitations = No No????

i asked when we ordered our invites, and the postage would be the same on square as rectangular - since there is so much stuff in the envelope anyway (response card, etc..) so postage shouldn't be an issue.

except one of my friends had a square reply card that she had to pay extra reply postage for (why she did that, i'll never know).. so make sure your replies are little rectangles lol!

nice to hear everyone w/square invites worked out OK, as we got them too
