I was wondering if any of you had your baby at St. Catherine's Hosp in Kings Park. I am going to deliver my baby there and I have heard mixed reviews. Does anyone know if they offer private rooms? How the NICU is? and any other info would be appreciated!

Re: St Catherines
MY SIL delivered her first child there. She had no problems at all! She didnt have a private room though but I dont know if thats an option. The only issue she had is that they are very strict on visitation hours and during open visitation the baby is in the nursery not allowed out! She delivered my nephew at Stony Brook and after felt that St Catherines took a few more precautions that at the time she didnt appreciate but now does!

my best friend delivered there twice, neither of us liked it. The baby is not allowed in the room while visitors are there, the visiting hrs stink. She said the nurses weren't all that great, the only reason she delivered there was because her dr had rights there (and she LOVES her dr)

I have actually heard great things about St.Catherines. I delivered at St.Charles and the visiting hours there are also strict (2-4 grandparents/siblings only) and 7-8pm open visiting hours. The babies were not allowed out of the nursery during open visiting hours.

My friend delivered at St Catherines and she loved it. I am going to St Charles and they are jus as strict with the visiting hours. Stony Brook does allow the baby to be in the room all day and their visiting hours ar e all day. I was supposed to go there but changed my mind. I didn't want my newborn to be in a room full of adults who could possibly be sick.

Idelivered in Huntington; and the day Cole was born was the first day of their new all day visiting hours with the baby in the room. To be honest, I hated it. It was very stressful having people dropping in all day long. And how are you supposed to learn to breastfeed with DH's boss right next you?? You're in and out of the hospital so quickly, I'd rather have had a little more alone time. JMO though
Edited to add --- I've heard good things about St Catherine's; but if you are concerned about needing a NICU, I'd def. go to Stony Brook.

If you need a NICU go to Stony Brook. I had Molly with me 24/7 including while vistors were there and I perfered it that way. I could take her to the nursery if I wanted but I wanted her with me.

I delivered at St. Catherines and had a great experience there. The nurses were fabulous. I had the baby in the room with me as much as I wanted. Anytime I didn't want her b/c I wanted to shower or take a nap I just brought her back to the nursery.
They weren't really too strict with visiting hours - my mom and grandmother were basically with me all day long. At night they definitely kicked people out so the mommies could get their sleep.
The only bad thing was that there are now 3 people in a room whereas there used to be 2. They took away a bunch of rooms to put in a NICU. I'll live with the other two girls to have the NICU at the hospital.

I agree with Lori. I had a wonderful experience at St. Catherine's and would do it again. The nurses were wonderful and you're in there for such a small amount of time with a V birth, it really didn't phase me who I shared the room with. I liked the fact that they were strict with the visitation as well as the baby not being in the room while guests were there.

Re: St Catherines
Thanks so much for the great information! I feel much better now. I do not know anyone who has delivered there but I love my doctor and do not want to switch. It sounds like most experiences were positive! I am happy about the strict visitation, it is so dangerous for a newborn to get sick, I don't think I want everyone holding him/her right away.....Well, Thanks agaiN!

Re: St Catherines
I was visiting some friend's at G/S last night and the babies were in the rooms! They are not private rooms either, so every Tom, **** & Harry was in and out of that place, touching on the baby, etc. There was even kids in the hallways coughing and stuff. Very scary!! Did not like that one bit. But the security gave me an attitude about giving Amber 'puffs' in the main lobby!

Re: St Catherines
my aunt delivered there when it used to be St. Johns hospital. she had a c-section and they left a sponge in her. she almost died. She had a lawsuit and one it. I hate that hospital its so dirty. I went in there for kidneys stones about 5 years ago and ended up with pink eye.
