Any of you get married at St. Demetrios Church in Merrick or know someone who has? My fiance and I are both Orthodox and we wanted to get married at St. Demetrios. We are not members of the church so they told us it costs $900 to use the church and another $250 to have someone there (we're getting married next Labor Day). Is this how much it is or am I being taken for a ride?
Can anyone help?????

Re: St. Demetrios Orthodox Church in Merrick???
I'm not sure if there is a 'standard' amount. I am a member of our greek orthodox church (well at least my parents are) but i have to register next year as a member and just give a donation. there is a greek brides thread on BHB some of the girls there might know.. i'll bump it for you.

Thanks so much honeybee06!! I knew there would be a donation but I think $1150 just for one day is wayyy too much! We love the church and have a hard time with the Catholic churches so we decided to go with Orthodox. (We're Syrian Orthodox).

My FSIL went to a fair they had recently, she went inside the church and said it was absolutely gorgeous. She goes to the Catholic church Cure de Ares across the street from there. Good luck!

I don't know if the fee is too much, but I do know that you can write it off as a tax deduction.

We were going to get married in the city at Holy Trinity Cathedral. The fee was $750...(which seemed a lot)...now we are getting married at St. Paul's Cathedral in Garden City and the fee is $500 for becoming a member....$1100 for a church fee is way to much!!! Talk to the priest, tell them you don't have that kind of money...(I am sure he will understand)..
