St. Lucia Safety

For anyone who has been to St. Lucia, did you feel safe there? Did you ever leave your resort?

We booked Sandals La Toc for part of our honeymoon, but now I am coming across articles about the safety in St. Lucia and I am getting concerned. Maybe I am just overreacting?

I'm going to St Lucia on my HM in December and I've heard nothing but FABULOUS things about the people and the island. We're also doing sandals bc we have a friend that is a regional manager for Sandals and she goes there ALLLLL the time for work related meetings (tough job, I know)!

I've also had at least 5 friends go there on the HM and no one has complained or had an issue with safety...

If that's where you want to go, GO FOR IT!! Every place is going to have issues...think about it...what if someone was coming to NY for their HM form another country and read some of the things that happened here...shootings, fires, rapes, murders at the beach...no one would want to come based on those articles!

We stayed at Sandals Grande, and never worried about our safety. We only left the resort once - to go on a ziplining trip (which was coordinated by Sandals). We didn't find a reason to otherwise leave the resort. If you go to another resort (since you can visit the other two), there's a Sandals shuttle that takes you there. When we were on the resort, we didn't think once about our surroundings. It was amazing.

We stayed at the Sandals Regency and I felt safe. We did leave the resort (for excursions) and everything was fine. It's an amazing place for a HM!

I was there last summer doing excursions from a cruise and was fine... no issues at all really nice people!!!

Stayed at latoc. Left 3 times for excursions and I never felt unsafe there at all

my cousin stayed at one of the three sandals in st lucia and loved it...she did everything through the resort...

i also have been to st lucia on a crusie and booked my own tour, off the cruise, based on reviews from a cruise website (cruise critic)...the tour was run by a man name Cosol, which is also the name of the tour group, and it was amazzzing...he takes you around the whole island, he takes you snorkeling, there is a short boat trip, you get to eat local food that HIS team cooks (which is amazing)...and the spiced rum punch is to die for...the whole ride is stocked with alcohol...makes for a great van tour etc!

Um I did not feel unsafe there like I have felt at other islands. But I would still be very careful about where I would go if I were to leave the resort.

We just came back from our honeymoon last Monday (so sad). We stayed at Sandals Grande and had an AMAZING time. Speaking of safety, we decided to be courageous one day with another couple we met there and we took a taxi into their capital city (Castries). We went to their 'Market' where we shopped for souvenirs and drank from a REAL COCONUT!! Needless to say, everyone was so friendly. Their motto is 'no pressure, no problem.' We had an unbelievable time and even when we ventured off sandals (which you don't really have to do because there is so much to do between the 3 resorts) you feel safe!!

I've been there 3 times and went to different places each time in a cab from the port and def felt safe!

I think it was totally safe. My husband and I went into 'town' by ourselves via taxi twice. It was fine, there is a bit of poverty but I didn't feel unsafe. Honestly there is not much to do in the town areas. I have been to other islands where you would go off shopping etc., but the taxi cost here wasn't really worth it.

We mainly stayed at Sandals and did 2 tours. One was zip lining which was fun and the other was a jeep ride to the sulfur springs and volcano... also great! We also took the Sandals shuttle to the Grande one night. Totally fine.

But like I said if you are looking for an island where you can sort of go off on your own and do alot of shopping etc.. St. Lucia wasn't really like that. Loved La Toc!

We went to St. Lucia La Toc for our honeymoon a month ago. We stayed on the resort most days but when we did leave we went on tours. I personally felt very safe. I never think it's a good idea to go out on your own on any of those island because the locals can tell your a tourist and are always more pushy!
