any feedback from brides who've been there? i've heard a lot of unsettling things about crime and dangers to tourists that are starting to scare me away from planning a trip there.
recommend your hotel if you stayed at a great one. TIA
ETA: we've been checking rates at frenchman's reef (marriott) and sugar bay (wyndham). i'd love to hear any reviews on those two.

Re: st. thomas
St Thomas is BEAUTIFUL!!!! I was there on a cruise, but I have friends who have been there and stayed at the Marriott right on the water. It's gorgeous. My cousin was there 2 weeks ago and got a great deal at the Ritz.

I am going to be honest with you, it is gorgeous, I was there by cruise ship in the rain and sun and I loved it.
But you are right about crime. Its normally not a problem. However my cousin Gerry was staying at a friends posh hotel on St. Thomas when a hurricane hit. The coastguard came and evacuated them. As she was wading to the coastguard carrying only as much as she could above her head, 4 truck load of looters with guns were pulling up the hotel. It can be dangerous.
My former boss lived there for years and owned a hotel and he said the same thing. Normally not a problem, although you do have to be careful and use common sense, because crime is an issue. But if you are unfortunate enough to get stuck there during a hurricane you take your life in your hands. He evacuated his family every hurricane, first chance he could.
July is the border of hurricane season.

wow, that's a crazy story. fortunately we'd be looking at february, so little risk of a hurricane. i get the feeling that it's a stay-at-your-resort type of place..

Re: st. thomas
IMO St Thomas is just an OK island......There are tons of hotels to choose from and many are really nice. Crime probably not any worse than many of the Caribbean islands....you can leave you resort on St Thomas. I would suggest going to St John over St Thomas. You fly into St Thomas and take the ferry over to St John.....St John is beautiful and has great restaurant in town. A bit more secluded type of island than St Thomas but still has some life to it.
