St. Thomas More Parish in Hauppauge...

I know there was a bride last week that posted a response to a church question I had about this church. I can't seem to remember your name, and when I do a search, nothing comes up. You said you were getting married there. What I need to know is about the music for the ceremony. They told me it was $500.00 to get married there. Does that include the music, or do you need to supply your own? I forgot to ask. Also, who did you meet with when you went there? We're going to be meeting with Father Boyle on Dec. 29th. Thanks!

I think you might be looking for me. I haven`t talked to anyone there about the music yet. I also forgot to ask about what their rules are about throwing stuff when we leave the church.
I spoke with Deacon Bob, and made my arrangements through him. He was recommended to me by a friend. I felt a little less intimidated speaking with a Deacon than a Priest.
Let me know how it goes on the 29th.
Good luck.

Did you or a family member have to register to be a parishoner in the church in order for you guys to get married there? My mom or dad have to register first. Is this common? Do you think I should speak to whom you're speaking to? Are you doing Pre-cana? Thanks!

My parents didn`t have to register. All we had to do was provide a current proof of baptism, and the diocese paperwork.
We will have to do pre-cana, but we will be doing it here in Buffalo (where we live).
The only thing about making arrangements with Deacon Bob is that he can only do the ceremony. He cannot do a mass. Maybe you should meet with Father Doyle (?) and see what he says. If the only difference is that your parents have to register there, that shouldn`t be too big a deal.
Let me know what you decided.

$500 is a common charge for a Church. Some include music for that fee, others do not. My Parish does include music for the $500 fee.
Also, you will need to request a new baptism certificate from the Church you were baptized in. It is really simple to do. This is so that the priest can verify that you are not currently married or divorced.
Pre-cana is required in order to get married in a catholic church. It is not an opition, but you can take it anywhere in the US.
I hope this info helps.

Really stupid question...

What is the diocese paperwork? I've been out of the loop on the whole Catholic thing for a while unfortunately. Thanks!

Basically all you do is write or call to the Church you were baptized in. They will send you a new, imprinted certificate. On the back it reflects your sacriments, communion, confirmation and if you were ever married.

You must also take pre-cana and I think you get some sort of writte proof to give to your Priest.

Does that answer the question?

The diocese paperwork is a short list of questions for you and your fiance to answer individually with a priest. It basically is a check to make sure you are marrying at your own free will, and that you understand it`s a life commitment. I believe all Catholic churches require it. The Catholic churches on LI are all a part of the Rockville Diocese, and therefore use the same form.

More info...

The documentation also asks that each person is willing to raise any children according to the beliefs and teachings of the Catholic church.

$500 seems like a lot for the church fee. We paid less than that for the fee, plus music and soloist.
