St. Thomas the Apostle in West Hempstead

St. Thomas the Apostle in West Hempstead

Is anyone getting (or has anyone gotten) married there?

I grew up in this parish. One of my cousins was married there almost 10 years ago and one of my brothers got married there in 2003.

Everyone I've talked to had a very different experience there. We're planning to call this week for our first meeting, and I was just wondering what to expect. I'm also curious what priest you met with and what your experience was with him. My brother was married by Msgr. Lisanti and my cousin was married by F. Brian.

Also, any info on what they charge / allow / etc. would be very helpful.

Thanks!

My sister & BIL were going to get married at St. Thomas, but their date was taken....so they got married at St. Thomas' chapel instead (still part of St. Thomas though...and just as beautiful!!). The chapel is right off of Hempstead Avenue- by the Exxon station. Father Paul married them there 2 years ago- he seemed so sincere & he gave one of the most memorable (& funny!) ceremonies I've ever been to....and not just b/c it was my sister, a lot of people had comments about how great Father Paul was.......but, sadly he was very sick (I think cancer) after her wedding, not sure if he's back at the church. My sister dealt directly with St. Thomas the Apostle for everything (even though it was in their chapel) and I know she didn't have any problems- AND we're lutheran! So, they were very good about not giving her a hard time even though only my BIL was catholic. My niece was also christened in the church, not the chapel, and again, I know my sister didn't have any problems with them.

HTH.....fm me if you have any other questions!

Thanks a lot. I grew up in that parish and went to school at St. Thomas. I'm familiar with the chapel, too, and have been there. I cannot for the life of me remember if it is air conditioned, though!

I'm hoping for the main church, so we'll see. My parents literally live 2 blocks from the church.

I'm glad they didn't give you a hard time. FH is not Catholic either and we REALLY do NOT want to have a mass...

they didn't have a mass either.....and I believe they had A/C....my sis got married 6/26/04 and it was a pretty hot day.....I don't really remember sweating in the church, so I think it was fine. In my opinion, I liked the chapel better! The church is tremendous and definitely beautiful, but there was just something about the chapel I really liked. I would love to get married there, but we live in Queens and our hall is in Queens so it just wouldn't make sense.

My sister lives right there too!! On Eagle Avenue- right near the horse stables.

We are getting married by Monsignor Lisante. He's fantastic. Very modern and down to earth - great sense of humor. He made us feel incredibly comfortable.

Father brian is my fiance's cousin! We are getting married by him but not at St. Thomas. He is great though (if it is the same one I am thinking of but I know that is his parish).

Too funny! I requested F. Brian when I called. I've known him since I was a kid. I was in elementary school when he said his first mass at St. Thomas. My parents have been living in St. Thomas parish for over 35 years.

F. Brian married my cousin and Msgr. Lisante married one of my brothers.

I called yesterday, but I'm waiting for F. Brian to return my call.
