My son is 8 momths old and we started him on meats about 1 month ago. Hr hates them! It's such a struggle to feed him meats! My Dr says he shuld have 1 jar w/veggies at lunch and 1 jar w/veggies at dinner(no more ceral at dinner) what do you guys do? I've heard from some friends who say they skip the meats all together and stick to fruits/veggies and when they have teeth and can chew they give them real meat. My husband feel we should make him eat the meat b/c otherwise he'll be a picky eater...I feel if we force him, he will start to hate eattimg al together.. any advice?

Re: stage 2 meats??
My doctor told us it was okay to introduce chicken/turkey at 7 months. She told us to wait until 10 months to introduce beef/lamb. She didn't say we needed to give him a meat everyday though.
My son will be 8 months on the 27th. Over the past two weeks I've introduced both the chicken and the turkey. I bought the Gerber stage 2 combo of 'Chicken w/Apples' and 'Turkey w/Sweet Potatoes'. I have some jars of just the 'Turkey w/turkey gravy' that I haven't tried yet. He really liked the Chicken w/Apples. He ate the Turkey w/Sweet Potatoes but I could tell he wasn't as 'enthusiastic' about it. So far I've tried giving him the meat 2-3 times per week for dinner. I'll have to look but I think there are some other stage 2 combos to try.
If your son REALLY hates it, I'd mention it to the doctor and see if he thinks its REALLY necessary to give your son the meat as often as he initially indicated.
Good luck!

Try watering it down a little. Sometimes it's too thick for them. Kiera wasn't liking it at first but then we added some water and now she eats it just fine.
I also read to start with the apples/chicken & the turkey/sweet potato combo. It's a sweeter taste so they get use to it.

Anthony HATES HATES the meat. I cant find the chicken with apples anywhere so i mix the chicken and a jar of applesauce. i hate forcing it on him. he just crys and crys with the food all in his mouth and tongue. dinner time is so stressful! did anyone not give their baby barley? i never did the barley. the rice was binding him so i stopped that but i never tried barley. i heard it can be hard on their stomach.

Emily eats the chicken with apples and chicken with pears. She loves both. She really loves the turkey with sweet potatoes and chicken with sweet potatoes. I tried her on beef and veggies and she had an allergic reaction to the beef. Her face and neck were covered in red blotches. So, we are just sticking with chicken and turkey for now. The chicken and turkey vegetable dinners she'll eat too.

Andrew never liked the meats alone either! It's yucky! But if I mixed the jar of meat in with his veggie, he ate it! Do you mix it or feed it straight? That could be the answer!

Re: stage 2 meats??
I was told no stage 2 meats until 9 months. I think by then, maybe I'll just puree my own...that jarred stuff smells so bad, I wouldn't eat it either!!

Re: stage 2 meats??
Have you tried ALL the meats?? ie.. Alex hated the beef and chicken loved the veal and sometimes turkey....
the best 'trick' was taking the spoon, dipping it in fruit or veggie, dipping into the meats, and then dipping back into the fruit or veggie... sometimes it workrd, sometimes it didnt...
I also gave him crumpled barely there bits of hamburger and teeeeny tiiiny pieces of chicken to get him accostomed to what he was gonna be eating once his choppers came in !!
Alex is now a little over 2, and is picky because of texture, but I dont feel it has much to do with what he ate as a baby...

I bought a few of those jarred meats and opened one, took one smell and tossed them. NASTY! They smell like cat food. So, I decided until Jack can handle some 'real' meat we are sticking with cereal, fruits and veggies.

Re: stage 2 meats??
My daughter is 8 months old I give her cereal anda fruit for breakfast for lunch I give her a meat mixed with veggie or a regualar veggie and yo baby yogart or a fruit. for dinner I give her some of what we are having for dinner and then give her a little cereal and a fruit. This seems to be working well.
Also try mixing the meat with the fruit just dip the spoon in to coverthe initial taste so the baby will think he is having fruit I did that as well at first with the meats and it worked

Re: stage 2 meats??
When I first bought the meats, I bought the plain ones without fruits/vegetables mixed in - they were so gross and totally smelled and looked like cat food. I threw them out. Then I got some mixes, and the only ones Nick would eat are the Chicken and Apples and the Sweet Potato and Chicken. I am not too concerned about him not eating the others.

Re: stage 2 meats??
my daughter used to hate the meats also. then i found something by gerber called 'simple dinners', they come in flavors, chicken and apples, turkey and sweet potatoes, beef and carrots. they have twice the meat then any other dinners, they are stage 2 and cause the two ingredients are mixed so welll, they taste pretty good. give them a try, i bet your son will eat them up!!
