Started apartment hunting...

Started apartment hunting...

Have been to six places (five alone yesterday!) and not having much fun yet. Places are either too small or too expensive! We found a great one yesterday afternoon but the current tennant was still there and the place was filthy... it also won't be ready until into November so it's iffy, and if it doesn't get cleaned properly we'd be in trouble... Then we saw another last night that was huge, and so awesome, but too expensive They advertised what we could afford but it didn't include any utilities or anything... We have another to look at today and I'm sure several more this week but it is a frustrating experience!!

Anyone renting an apartment or know someone who is??

Yup me too!!! I don't want to spend more than $1000 with all utilities included... we've been lookign too and they're either too small or too expensive!!!! It's so discouraging... not only has mortgages gone up, but rent too!!!!!!!

I looked for like 6 months and $1000 a month is almost impossible anywhere, even in some super shady areas. Good Luck girls

good luck! $1000 is a tight budget

I think you are limited to an apartment in someone home

I agree. When we were looking for a new apartment back in June, $1000 would get you a 1 bedroom converted garage. We wound up spending much more than that! Good luck!

Definitely check out Amerliny's post on the 'Home' page. Her apartment is in Lindenhurst and $1,050 all inc.

Re: Started apartment hunting...

Just a little FYI on the house apts...MAKE SURE THEY ARE LEGAL!!!! I cannot stress this enough! Since I lived in LI I've been in house apts that were illegal and just 4 stinkin' mths before our wedding we get a 'Summons for Inspection'...in so many words...move out it's an illegal apt. I went through hell not to mention the fact it set back our wedding planning and the added stress!
Luckily in our case it ended up being a blessing in disquise. Our apt now is twice the size for the same amt of rent...Oh...and best part...it's legal!
It can happen to anyone. Ask before you look. I had people tell me when I was looking that no...it's ok...that's because the landlord was absent...BS... A friend of ours just had the same thing happen to them. It's their house and they had a single guy renting...neighbors, no matter how friendly they are can easily pick up the phone and report you.

i could not agree with this more!!! we had a similar situation-it really is something that you want to MAKE SURE before you move in. and Most 'apartments' in people's houses (especially those that have a kitchen/LR combo- or when electric is included) Not all the time, but in Most cases- its illegal. honestly, it is just Not worth the headache.

good luck w/ the hunt, Jenny

Too bad, you guys are in NY!! The apartments down in Florida are unbelievable.

FH and i looked before we decided to move and we found nothing.

I understand your pain. Keep looking, something should turn up!
