Started.. Book 1 of 'Left Behind' series (UPDATE: Finished)

I read the first 50-60 pages in Barnes & Nobels.. seems to be ok... nothing too heavy.. Not yet.. nothing majorly Christian in reference.... (yet)

I'll keep you updated.

Im reading it as a fiction..
I HATE .. cringe and usually buck with any mention of 'strengthen' my 'beliefs' in 'christ'..

But im not closed minded. So far it's entertaining.. a little funny in my mind.. Since most left behind have pretty much the same opinion as me to one degree or another, I'm willing to play along.

I'll either say it's enjoyable with a realistic twist of possiblity or its a bible thumping church pushing piece of hard sell religious stuidity.

My opinion is not complete yet.. but I don't 'think' it will be too bad..

I'll let you know.

My FSIL has very strong beliefs, and IMO, is the type of person to be 'easily swayed' into certain beliefs. So when she told me this, I was like 'uh huh, yeah ok'. LOL

Re: Started.. Book of 'Left Behind' series

At least a quarter of the book is biblical mumbo jumbo that could prehaps been easily done without. I will, however, consider it a refresher course and background to who's who in the book.

It hasn't 'Moved' me one way or the other. It does p*ss me off that I paid $15 for this book though.. It maybe some time before I decide to continue the story of Buck, Chloe & Rayford.

Still... as a fiction reader.. it has some teeth to it's plot. Its a classic bad guy take over the world theme. The whole God theme seems like an easy way of explaning how the characters got to where they are. If I (and I do) ignore the theory of this being an attempt to redeem my soul by a book, then I can see it's just a story.. plain and simple.

A fairly interesting story.. but oddly enough, I'm offended that this whole book was nothing but a stage setter... very annoying. I paid $15 for this book.. something more should have happened. If the second book is more blah blah and less story like this one was, then I will have to leave this series 'Behind'.

Great review

I don't think I'll put this on my reading list!

WOW...that to me is a harsh review. If you didnt want to read a 'religious' book then maybe you should have picked up something that wasnt written by 2 Pastors.

I apologize if you feel it was a harsh review. I feel it was an honest one. I didn't say the book was boring like Insomnia put me to sleep or pointless like Tad Williams first booked seemed to me. It was a reader's opinion.

If you see.. i actually said I liked the premises of the fiction aspects of it. Was it a lot of holy mumbo jumbo... yep.. i sure as H*ell think so.. but I feel i was even MORE bible thumping than this book needed to be. If the audience in mind was Christians why are they shoving it down my throat with a pitchfork? I shouldnt feel guilt or any other religious emotions towards any book other than the bible. They took it too far..

BUT, as i said, it make sense in a way of reminding you what was what and also to introduce you to everyone in the book.

It's a stage setter (as I said) and if you notice that other than the cost, I'm willing to read one more book and see if the STORY gets anywhere. If i want to read about the Rapture from a religious standpoint I'd pick up a bible.

So .... although it seems harsh to you.. its actually neutral with a lean towards apathy. But it's not a BAD book .. it's not 'worthless' or a total 'waste' of time.. those would be a negative review in my mind.

Just My Own Personal Honest Opinion.

If you liked the book.. good for you, enjoy!

ETA: I am Christian by definition.. occasionally agnostic by practice and spiritual by my own analysis. Why wouldn't I pick up a book written by pastors..? Isn't that the point? To get people to read it and think? My opinions are based on what I thought of it.
