Starting to FREAK ...

Starting to FREAK ...

about money and details for the wedding ... just everything!

I sooo DO NOT want to part with my money - FH & I saved a TON this year and now it's starting to trickle away as we finish paying vendors and it makes me so sad to see it go!

There are so many things to buy that we didn't 'budget' for - TV, Computer, and some detailed stuff for the wedding (donation scrolls, scroll rings, snowflake ornaments, more tips than I expected, etc, etc, etc, etc ...'

It's all just starting to add up and I'm having trouble keeping track - even though most of you girls I know I keep very detailed excel spreadsheets

Anyway, I'm just venting so I don't have to vent to FH who freaks out about being the 'Man' & 'Provider' so much lately!

FH & I each live with our parents so in addition to a wedding, it's starting a 'home' that's taking a toll on us! I just made a list of 'basic stock' for the house - olive oil, peanut butter, spices, broths, tomato cans, jelly, soy sauce, pasta, vinegar, condiments, ... all the staples for our kitchen ... the list was a mile long!
We decided each week, we'd look in the paper and buy things on sale and start to stock up.
In addition, we are going to wait for a TV & Computer until after the wedding, so we have 2 19' TV's in our apartment for now!
It's just so stressful right now. It's exciting but my mind is racing a mile a minute with everything!

Thaks for letting me vent / just talk it out!

It'll all be okay - I promise!

We bought our co-op three years ago and even though we didn't have the stress of planning a wedding at the time I completely understand where you are coming from. Right after our offer was accepted I started shopping around for things for the place...no registry at the time so we needed EVERYTHING. And slowly I managed to get a lot. I love Marshall's and TJMaxx for household things and decor as well as IKEA - they have great home decor items and linens. As far as the pantry items...back away from your parent's cabinets...it will take a while before you accumulate all that food. You don't need to fill your cabinets right away. Start off by buying the basics to get you through an when you see sales you can take advantage of stock up items...Do you have a Costco/BJ's membership? We have had it for 4 years and I never once regretted having it. So helpful to get things in bulk that you need all the time like tp, paper towels, peanut butter...you name it! It'll all work out.

This made me crack up at my desk! That is exactly what I did. I stood in front of FMIL's pantry and made a list ... LOL

Jan, how soon after the wedding are you guys moving in together? The following would help:

- a list of every cleaning product you use, complete with tools- mops, brooms, garbage cans etc that you will need in the new place.

- paper plates, plastic cups and utensils- you will probably not be cooking for a week or so until you get settled in

- a weeks worth of clothes, toiletries, medications etc (pack like you are going on vacation) so you aren't fishing through dozens of boxes- like shirts over here, undwear over there, just to get dressed in the morning

doing that stuff made my life a lot easier last august when we moved in together.

Re: Starting to FREAK ...

Well I've been slowly moving my stuff over into the apartment - books, CD's, movies, photo albums ...

Next weekend will be summer clothes, fancy dresses, etc ...

All my enagement gifts are away in the cabinets and once my shower comes, I'll put all that stuff away.

So we'll be set up before I move in - he already lives there and I've been going through all of his stuff too. The goal is to have just a few items at my parents by December.

We leave on our honemoon 2-days after the wedding and return 2-weeks later, I still have off a few days after I return so I'm sure I'll organize and shop then too.

You're only just starting to freak? I do it every few weeks since becoming engaged. I NEVER thought I would be doing a more traditional type wedding. I would have preferred something on a beach and immediate family at a lovely restaurant. Don't get me wrong, I am totally enjoying planning my wedding now. My FH steered me away from the restaurant idea as we decided to add aunts and uncles. He promised we would have a wedding off the water which we are. But I keep freaking out over the little things and who are we putting on this show for. I'll give the guy this, he's got strength for putting up with me doing this, especially since my last one was at midnight last week just before we were about to fall asleep. And we are not near the house hunting stage yet!

Don't worry Lisa! It will all work out. I'm already freaking out and have not really even started planning! It will all be worth it in the end. I can totally sympathize with the 'Provider' part. I hear that too. Ugh!

Re: Starting to FREAK ...

thanks guys (gals!)! I just have these little bursts of 'freakouts' and then I resume normalcy again ... it's just so much is going on I find it hard to concentrate and keep my head level.

FH and I are at a good place finacially and emotionally but I think we both get a little wacky when we look at numbers and little details. It seems like sooo much but I know it'll all work out I just need to keep focused and organized and keep doing a little bit every day!

I can understand your pain even though I havent lived with my mom for almost 10 years. All I can say is take one thing at a time - do what you can and dont stress yourself out! Take care of the wedding first!
