Ok so my wedding is on a Thursday night (09/10/09). I want to give my guest enough time to plan for a weekday wedding (travel arrangments, requesting day off of work, etc.)
My STDs are all printed, all I have to do is address them. I think I should already be sending them out. My future Mother in Law is saying it's too early and making a big deal by not giving us all the guests on their side addresses.
Is she right? Is it too early?
Thanks for the help!!!

Re: STD dilema
Most people send them out no earlier than a year before so you are getting married in 9 months so you are fine.

Re: STD dilema
I think its perfect timing actually and its definitely not too early. Most do it anywhere from 6 months to a year. I already received an STD a few weeks ago for a wedding on october of 09

Re: STD dilema
I think it's great that you want to give your guests extra time to make arrangements especially since it's on a Thursday night.
I would send them out right after the holidays so they don't get lost in all holiday confusion.
Your FMIL is probably doing this because std's are relatively new when it comes to weddings (who heard of them even 10 years ago?). She just doesn't understand the way things are done now.

Re: STD dilema
I would personally wait until the new year just because with christmas cards and everything people might throw it out by mistake.

Re: STD dilema
I'd do it after the holidays, around Jan IF you have a lot of OOT guests. Otherwise, wait until late Feb/early March.

Re: STD dilema
I think if you want to send them out now, you should.
I just got my magnets in the mail the other day and will start sending them out in a week or so, probably with a Christmas card.

I agree - I would send them out sometime in early January after the holidays.

send them.....the sooner the better! especially because people might have to take time off from work. give people enough time to plan

Re: STD dilema
we're getting married on halloween and because a majority of our guests are coming from out of town we sent them a year in advance. i definitely think the earlier the better- especially if people want to take time off work to come to your wedding!

i don't think it's too early, we are also doing a thursday, we JUST sent ours out, 6 months early, but ti wish we had them done earlier....
i would just stress the fact to FMIL that some people need alot of advance notice to take time off work...

Re: STD dilema
Your wedding is right around the same time as mine! Except if your wedding is on Thursday then that is the 12th and Tuesday is the 10th, I only realized that because my wedding is a Friday night November 6, 2009. I would have sent my STD's out already... but I am making them myself and I'm not finished yet. So I definately do not think it's too early. It's a save the date not an invitation! For invitations, I'd definately say it's too early. I am hoping to have mine in the mail by year end!
Maybe she isn't used to the concept of a STD. My grandmother has no clue about anything wedding related and has no idea what a save the date is... she kept telling me it was too early but she's always confused with it being an invitation.

I don't think it's too early...you want to send it enough ahead of time to give people time to make their job/travel arrangements...
