STD - family issues ....

STD - family issues ....

My mother things STDs with photos are low class or some such nonsense - she says it's 'a generational thing'. That in her time the STD would have been more like an invitation with an evelope not a postcard. What do I do?? I don't think she wants me to send them to her friends. I feel insecure now about the ones I got printed up.

Between you and me, I sometimes think because I am in an interracial relationship that she isn't necessarily over the moon about that she doesn't want to advertise our marriage to her friends. Am I being insecure? Help.

yeah but tell her that alot of things aren't done the same way they were back in the days. The photo std's are more than acceptable and nothing wrong with them at all. If thats what you want then tell her she should respect your wishes

I think it is only because things have changed...My mom hates that I knwo the date about my shower and tells me often but I explain to her with todays schedules many people know the date but nothing else....

The STD's were a prob too because she never sent them out...

theres a lot of things my moms refers to about 'back in the day' to me as well. its hard for her to understand but i just said, let me take care of it. i actually didnt send STDs to my moms friends - i only sent them to close family and friends and only the ones i was SURE i was inviting. i never even told my mom i was doing it - i just sent one to her house. she actually was surprised and thought it was cute. its hard but its your wedding and you most likely will only do it once. do what you want, people will get over it. its only a postcard. good luck!

Ken's mom had an issue with STDs she wanted a wedding annoucment card. In the end Ken told his mom this is what we're doing because it just makes more sense, i'm sure she was a little upset but its our wedding and she ****** it up for us.

i think a std with a photo is fine....we are doing one too and they are pretty popular these days....

hopefully this has nothing to do with the other thing you said and you guys as a couple - try not to let that get to you - as long as you are happy and with someone who treats you right it shouldnt matter what race you are or he is if your mom has some kind of issue with that its her problem not yours - so please try not to let it affect your happiness and wedding plans!

I wouldn't let it bother me. She's from a diff way of life; my mom did that too. many of my family had never heard of STD's before. I am in an interracial marriage as well and got LOTS of unasked for commentary but I ignored it pretty well; In hindsight I wish I had ALWAYS done exactly what I wanted. I would say something like 'Ok Mom, but if I don't send these, they're not going to have advance warning to save the date and I would hate to be rude and inconsiderate of their time.'

Act sugary sweet and then send them. If she doesn't wnat one, she doesn't need one.

I myself made THREE DIFF TY CARDS! WHY? BEcause my Mom didnt think kissing pics were appropriate. I wasted more time and money than I should have trying to please and was it worth it? NOPE. She found something else to complain about. My point is, you're not going to please everyone. Please yourself and DH-you're marryine one another, not everyone else.
