I'm getting married next Labor Day weekend. We will have several guests coming from out of the country and more than 130 people coming from OOT. We want to send our STDs magnets out at the end of Sept, but with all the hotel info (almost like a wedding info packet).
Since it's Labor Day and hotels won't let me block more rooms until the ones I have are full. We are hoping that at least close family and friends will book early and then we can open up new room blocks. They can start reserving rooms this Oct.
1) has anyone sent out packets like this? I'm looking for a template. I'm afraid I'll send too much info and then the invites are somewhat pointless.
2) Is this a good idea? Or should we just send the STDs and send the hotel info out with the invites

Re: STD package help
We did a tri-fold brochure with all the hotel info on it along with directions and attractions. It never hurts to give people too much info! We also stuck magnets inside the brochure, which we printed on a thick paper (80 weight, I think?) and stuck in regular-sized envelopes. We listed I think 5 hotels with descriptions. If it's a holiday weekend and you have many OOT guests, I think it would be much better to send hotel info out now to get people thinking about it, give them time to buy plane tickets, etc.
We had a friend design the brochures on Quark Express, but you can I'm sure do it on Microsoft word as well. Feel free to FM me if you have any other questions!

Re: STD package help
I am in the same situation as your are, but for July 4th weekend. This is what I decided to do. Instead of doing a magnet with our picture, we are doing a notecard that has our picture and says Save the Date on the front (from Shutterfly) Then we put all of the hotel info (all 4 of them), house rental, and a brief line about weekend activities planned on the left hand side. On the right side we put the date, place and brief note to our guests.
I originally was going to do a magnet, and then add a small card(about a 1/4 of a page) with hotel info, but changed my mind. I think this far in advance only essential info is needed.
Also for the hotel issue, I had my parents and FI's parents each reserve 10 rooms. Once we reserved 20 rooms they gave us more. The only thing is that his mom and my mom have to track the reservation numbers and give teh rooms our to guests. But if the rooms don't get booked, you only have to cancel your reservation 72 hours in advance.
