Steak Knives
Help, My grandmother wants all stainless steel steak knives for christmas. I have found one set at Bed Bath and Beyond (A.J. Henkell ..not sure of spelling). Is this a decent brand? Macy's only had the full knife sets, and it was a mess. Where else can I find these? I live on the East End, so Fortunoff is not very convenient.Also... she wants an afghan for her couch!!! I can't find anything!!!! Anyone have ideas???

Re: Steak Knives
Henckels is a top of the line brand. We received a bunch of their knives (not steak knives, more like carving knives) as wedding gifts and they're awesome.

Re: Steak Knives
Henkels is a VERY good brand of knives. As for the afgan, I would check a flea market type place or a knitting/yarn store (they may have some to sell).

Re: Steak Knives
I agree - JA Henckels is top of the line. I received a block at my shower too. There was a thread about this a few months back. Sabatier and Wustoff are also good brands. I believe all three have differently priced product lines - according to grade and quality of knife. They can be found in all major dept stores as well as probably Target, Kohl's, maybe even Walmart. My husbands family lives on the East End - Mattituck .....is that where youre from? So maybe you can try Tangers Outlets - they have a great housewares store there.

Re: Steak Knives
I am not far from Tanger Outlets, I am exit 63 of LIE, and then go North till you hit the ocean
I was there a week ago, but at the time I didn't know she wanted these knives, so I will go back. It is actually the closest shopping area/mall type place to me. It is about 10-15 minutes, while Smithhaven mall is a half hour!!!!
Anyway thanks for reminding me about the outlets, I got into mall mode.... I didn't even think of it.

Re: Steak Knives
I have Wustof and Henckels knives-love them all! Look for knives that are high carbon stainless steel-they will hold a sharp edge longest while also being rust/discolor proof. Also, look for knives with full tang-the metal part runs the whole length of the knife, and the handle is riveted on (as opposed to the blade being attached to the metal). What a nice gift! I love to cook, and a good knife makes such a difference.

Re: Steak Knives
She only wants the steak knives, which is kinda annoying because it would be easier for me to just buy one of the full sets. She also wants the ones that you start to see recently that are all one peice, all stainless steel, for the dishwasher (this stems from her being EXTREMELY lazy LOL and not wanting to handwash anything). She is very picky and if I get the 'wrong' ones, she will definitely tell me!!!! Grandmas are so funny.(she will be like... oh..no no no, thats not them!)
