How are you ladies handling your or FH's step parents in your wedding?
FH has a step mother. We both love her, but he was 15 when his dad started dating her, and he had already moved out for college when she moved in, so she is not quite like a second mother. Here is the monkey wrench-- his mother will be offended if she feels the step mother is stepping on her role at all.
We are looking for advice on how to balance making the step mother feel special, without regarding her as a mother.

You need to find a little job for her to do. Are you having a church ceremony, she could do a reading. Also, I would definitely get her a corsage that will help. Is she being announce at the reception with his father? My Stepmother is involved by helping me make a few things for the wedding, she is crafty so I need her help.

FH's mom is remarried. I think we are going to ask his step dad to do a reading to make him feel special without taking away the duties of his father.

Thanks ladies. I definitely will have her introduced during the reception with his dad, and I also want to get her a corsage. I will have to think about a little job to give her. Maybe when the day gets closer I will know what tasks need to get done.

I have a similar issue except fh doesn't care for her to much and good mother is past. but I'll cross that bridge when time comes but ssp far that's what I'm doing to corsage and having her introduced. my biggest fear is the invitation drama...

We have already discussed that our invitations will read 'Together with their families...'
It annoys me a little simply because my parents are contributing far more than anyone else, but this just seems to be the most politically correct way to do it.

This!! His family is not giving us a dime but my mom is the one that said do not even worry about that.. I kind of wanted their names separate and above but my mom said leave it as is.. She said they know they helped and that is all that matters.. We are also giving my parents more say in friends they can invite and what not though..

We have a VERY similar situation. Doea his mom and step mom get along? We invites both to see venues and florists. I also plan to invite both to go bridesmaid dress shopping with us. FH's Dad and stepmother have very generously offered to pay for our photography/videography and rehearsal dinner so we have worked with his stepmother on that. FH's mother was kind enough to pay for our honeymoon so that is her 'thing.' I also find keeping them both updated helps. That way I''m not bringing a crowd of people everywhere but everyone still knows what's going on. I think so far we are balancing it well. No issues yet!
