Still a bit torn on the RH's

Still a bit torn on the RH's

So I am still down to Douglaston Manor & CLM.

Last night at the Douglaston showcase they had food out buffet style but it was the CH food... none of your main course/entres. But they did have cakes out and the chocolate fountain. The cakes were excellent. The CH food was average nothing to rave about, but I'm not saying I didn't like it.

The food tasting at CLM for me was excellent. They served appetizer, salad, main course & chocolate fountain w cookies on each tables as well. They don't offer CH food for tasting.

So it's basically I had a tasting at CLM for the Main sit down and Douglaston only gave CH. The BM at Douglaston said he might be able to arrange another small tasting for me & FH since FH was not able to come (he wont let me book unless he likes the food).

Oh whoa is me :(

But that room at Doulgaston Manor is just to die for.....

EDITED TO ADD: One thing that bothers me about CLM is that they are re-doing the ceiling in my room. Sure it sounds amazing but I won't know what it looks like and can only be told what 'it's supposed to look like'. They have no sketches or anything to show me. Worries me.

If you weren't crazy about the CH food don't book there!! TO me that is the best part of a wedding and if that is not good the wedding is not good JMO. If the main course was good at the other place than I am sure the CH must be good so I would book it there!!!

Everyone keeps telling me that and I am leaning towards CLM for that reason alone. The food I tasted at Douglaston was good but wasn't GREAT.

Just the whole new ceiling business at CLM makes me wonder what it will look like exactly.

I wouldnt make my sole decision based on the food they offered at a bridal showcase. Most places dont go all out for the showcases...they dont provide the hot foods and action stations. I just went to the showcase at watermill on tues and all they offered were crudite, cheese, some grilled vegetables and passed appetizers. I'm assuming the food at a wedding is MUCH better.

Insist they provide a tasting of the entree foods! : )

did they show you a rendering of the design of the new ceiling? If not tll them you want to see it. Maybe by seeing it that will calm your nerves a little.

If I call him today and the BM tells me they won't have us try the entree foods then deals off.

I would agree with you if they don't let you taste it don't bother!

Re: Still a bit torn on the RH's

food is important. yes. no one will argue that. did douglaston agree to show you your room set up for the number of guest your expecting? i remeber that was also an issue.

also, CLM should be able to show you renderings....unless its just a rehab kind of thing? like they are making a new ceiling but with a similar style. or are they completely re-vamping the cieling. how drastic of a change could it possibly be??

I got to see the DM room all openeed up and I can see clearly that space won't be an issue

BM @ CLM said they are vaulting the ceiling over the dance floor almost to a uppside down 'v' point, won't be glass or anything just painted sheet rock like the rest of it. But they are going to string chandlier down the center of it, they say 2-3 of them.

the vaulted ceiling w/chandelier sounds promising. i would just make sure it'll be done on time lol.

they both sound so appealing.

ugh decisions decisions.

See, that's what i don't get...if they're renovating anything at all, wouldn't they have to have a sketch of it? Granted, renovations are supposed to make the place look nicer, but if you can't see, how do you know if you like it? grrrrrrr

See, that's what i don't get...if they're renovating anything at all, wouldn't they have to have a sketch of it (or is someone just blindly doing the work)? And why not show it to people that are interested in seeing what the venue they might be booking would look like afterwards? I mean, RH's aren't exactly cheap, you should know what you're paying for.

Sorry for the rant, it's just that i had one RH tell me that they were renovating for the next 5 months and if you booked during that time (i.e. without seeing/knowing what the finished product would look like), you got a cheaper price, but if you waited till it was done, you had to pay the new price (which is $30pp more!)...granted, renovations are supposed to make the place look nicer, but if you can't see, how do you know if you like it? grrrrrrr

thats a good point. a rendering isnt that hard to get... ESPECIALLY if it a MAJOR renovation thats in the planning stages. the sandcastle is closing for like 3 months to renovate and they had computer renderings of every room that was going to be altered. it def helps.

its always about food!!! no one goes to a wedding and says ohh the room was......... they say oh the food was...... so go for CLMMM if u love their food.. cuz CH is where people eat the most

Well if the BM @ DM can't arrange an tasting of actual entrees then I will just go back to CLM and book.

It's about the food.

1. food
2. music

None of your guests will remember what the room looked like they will remember if they ate well and if they were having a good time. As long as the ceiling isn't LEAKING no one will know...

So, go for the CLM if that's where the better food is.

I bet you anything we'll book CLM. Cause honestly it's hard for me to schedul anything for FH to do with his work schedule! Doubt a tasting at Douglaston will work out, at least not in the immediate future.

I think remember the food at weddings, not what the room looked like. If the food *****, it will leave a lasting impression. As long as there's enough space for everyone and the dance floor is in a good location, I think you'll be fine. Also, how bad can the room look? Average CH food isn't a good sign.

You should use that to your advantage and try to talk them down on the price.
