Hi Ladies, Dress shopping has begun to terrorize my life. What started as fun and exciting, has deteriorated in a real drag and I feel like I am going to cry with every dress I put on that is not 'the one.' I realize now I may not be a 'the one' kind of girl - I'm far too analytical and overthink everything - but I want my wedding dress to be special and perfect for me.
What I've not mentioned is that I have put a (refundable) deposit on a dress I tried this past weekend. I really really like this dress, I would say I love it. I just wish it weren't so much money, but I am very blessed and my parents have given me the green light to get it regardless. Anyway, I will post pictures of the dress on the model (she is too skinny, but you get the idea). I just wish it were more of a trumpet shape than sheath and wonder if I can have it changed. My ideal dress would be a mixture of these two, with a higher front, open back, belt and trumpet skirt. I feel like I am being impossible to work with - but is it worth asking the wedding salon to see if this is possible? I don't know what to do. The first dress is the dress I have deposited for, the second has some of the details I would like added to the first. Oy vey. Thanks for your input and thoughts.
I think they are both GOREGOUS!!!!!!! I love the blingy detail on the first and i love the lace!
I don't see why you could not just call and ask...i know some designers you can take parts of one dress and mix with the other (this may cost more $$ though). I do not see the harm in asking though!!!
I would also go to the store and try them on again!!
HTH!!!

Re: STILL dress shopping . . .kind of long
You can get the most wedding salons to do the top of one dress and the bottom of another... the alteration team can let you know how it can be done, ESPECIALLY if they're by the same designer. It can't hurt to ask, if they say no, then you make a decision.
But I've had many a consultant tell me 'I just sold this dress to a bride that wanted the top to be X and the bottom to be Y'. You may have to pay more, but everything has a price... (I don't mean to be snarky, I mean for real, if you want it, you can have it, but it will cost you $$$).

I would also ask if they could take the parts of the 2 and put them together and also have you tried any jim heljm dresses on? it sounds like they might fit your needs

Thank you guys, I may see what, if anything, can be done. I wish I would have thought of it when they had the Monique consultant there. I have to decide by July 11 or lose my depo. I really love #1, the one I ordered, I'm just nervous because its not very gowny - its not real poofy or anything, not very bridal, but its very me.
Funny you mention Jim Hjelm - I was supposed to try some on today but Bridal Reflections in Carle Pl. did not have the dresses I wanted to try - they are bringing one in from the city this week, hopefully I can try it by Weds and make a decision. This is really hard - thanks so much for listening. XO

I think the dress is very bridal just not the typical 'princess bride' if the dress is totally you then I say go for it. not everyone has to have a poofy dress!

both are gorgeous but i like the first one better, i would DEF ask if you could combine element of both dresses, usually you can do it, thats what fsil did, she pretty much took the top of one dress and the bottom of another from the same designer
dont worry chickie, im sure itll work out, either way the dress you have a deposit on is GORGEOUSSSS!!! and youll looks tunning regardless

I love them both!!!! I agree with the other girls, I would call and ask if they can customize it. Many designers do this or even the bridal salon themselves can alter the dress.
Good luck!!

Definitely see if the designer can accomodate you. In all honesty, I placed an order on a dress and wound up doubting it 2 days later and still 2nd guess myself. I would be completely happy with your dress before you order it because you dont want to have doubts down the line. I truely believe you can find a dress that will be EXACTLY what you want. Sorry if I am not more help. By the way, those dresses are beautiful, and I really like the shape and the back of second one!

Re: STILL dress shopping . . .kind of long
I appreciate the advice - and the FM! You have FM!
Here is my plan: This week I am going to try the Jim Hjelm dress I had my eye on - just to get it out of my system and see what it is like in person. Next week I have an appointment at Gabriella's in NYC, which I may or may not keep. Friday, July 10 I am going to the Monique trunk show at Saks in NYC so I can see my dress on again and decide about it - then I can also ask the ML consultant about making the modifications I am thinking about. Then I have the next day to get my behind to the wedding salon and get measured for my dress . . . or not. I'm stressing myself out - but I think this should work. I don't want to rush into anything, but by leaving a depo on the ML dress i was able to get a sick discount, for the trunk show. The belt I want with the dress was also discounted - which is great too. Ahhhhhh!!!!

I think they are both stunning, but prefer the first. I think you'll look amazing no matter which you choose.

I think they're both beautiful, but I think I like the first one just a little better. But you know me, I like glitz
I think you could definitely see if they can combine the two gowns. Some designers do that. It can't hurt to ask....what have you got to lose?

They are both Gorgeous!!!!! Did you put a deposit at the salon of Manhasset ? I didn't know they are having ML trunk show in Saks! As other girls said before, they can always customize the dress and add elements that you like. You have to be comfortable and feel beautiful, so go with your gut!
Good luck !

Both dresses are GORGEOUS. You can't go wrong-hello it's Monique Lhuillier!
And PS I'm over analytical and never had a dress 'moment' either. Don't worry girl.
If they can't combine the dresses, you could always add crinoline under the 1st dress to give it more volume and cheat a mermaid shape.
