Still searching for a reception site :(

hey girls,

i took my parents to see the bourne mansion yesterday and they liked it but thought it was too far and hard to get to from queens. so that one is out. I think my parents are looking for more of a traditional catering hall which i am not. some of the places i was considering for backup are now booked. i think i did a really bad job of searching, and now it is end of march and still dont have anything planned for wedding next june! did anything like this happen to anyone else, and what should i do? thanx girls for listening

Did you ever see DeSeversky or Harrison House?

i saw harrison house and really liked it but the shape of the ballroom threw me off. i have seen the deseveresky center, it is beautiful but i go to school there so it is too 'normal' for me. but that is definitely more the look i am going for.

How about the Renaissance in Astoria? I looked there and thought it was really nice.

Take a look at the Stewart Manor Country Club (www.stewartmanor.com). It's real close to Queens and a very pretty place. Our '03 reception was there and we loved it!!!

Good luck,
Donna

It sounds like you're looking for more of a 'mansion' type place, but if you're looking for something easy to get to from Queens, maybe try Glen Island Harbour Club in New Rochelle? That's where I'm having my ceremony & reception and it's right over the Throgs Neck Bridge. You can actually see the bridge from Glen Island Park. www.gi-hc.com

i dont know what youre looking for but dont worry so much about getting approval from your family before deciding

if you see a place and love it- go fo it.....remember its your wedding, your parents already had theirs!

good luck

Glen Island was actually one of my top choices... but when i went they quoted me $165pp for saturday night... i was not sure... i called today and they said they had the smaller room left, but when i went i had only seen the larger room... do you know what the smaller room looks like? my fiance and i really liked that it was on the water.

Sure--the smaller room is the 'Rose Room.' It's exactly the same as the larger ballroom, just on the side closer to the front entrance. It looks exactly the same. In fact, the 2 ballrooms are only separated by a sliding door thing that goes across the middle of the room (don't worry, the sound doesn't travel from one room to the other--I already asked).

The major difference between using the smaller room (which I think refers to the size of the CH room more than anything) is that your cocktail hour will be upstairs rather than downstairs. IMO, I like the downstairs CH area better because your guests can actually go outside on the patio directly from the CH, whereas they have to walk through the ceremony room to go outside when you're upstairs. There is also a large marble staircase in the downstairs CH area leading up to the ballroom, but upstairs you don't have this because it's all on the same level. The view from both rooms is the same and possibly better from upstairs because you can see more.

If you aren't planning on having your ceremony there, you can talk to them about possibly having your CH in the ceremony room, which is that beautiful round room. I know they aren't a fan of doing this all the time because of getting stains on the carpet, but I do know that they have done this before. Hope this helps!

If you like the idea of being on the water there are a few other places you should look into- Crescent Beach Club and Riviera in LI. And there are many other in New Rochelle that are on the water and a little more affordable then Glen Island: Surf Club, VIP, Greentree (also has a mansion feel), and Beckwithe Pointe. They are all really nice, but they each have a slightly different feel from one another.

I had my wedding at The Water's Edge and loved it. But, for a Sat night it is probably very pricey. I had mine on a Sunday night.

What about Condiere Hall? I think that is how you spell it....it is in Huntington and it is beautiful. It has a French motif and it is a mansion. I think Lessings owns it. Again not sure. Good Luck

Douglaston Manor?

I have to second North Ritz Club. It has sort of a mansion-y feel but it's also more traditional, and it only takes about 45 minutes to get there from my house in queens

What about The Metropolitan in Glen Cove? It's closer to Queens and I've heard great things about it.

Believe it or not Terrace on the Park in Flushing Meadow was beautiful. We went to a wedding there in the fall and it was recently redone, the views are spectacular, the room was huge as was the dance floor. The food and service were suburb.
