still totally confused tipping!!

Im still not sure what to tip some of my vendors cus I got so many different numbers from people. I asked 4 people I know personally who have gotten married on LI within the past couple years as well as asking you ladies. All my friends I asked had around 150 people at their weddings which is what Im having.
For example, I asked all of them about tipping the Matre D. One said she gave about $150, another gave about $650, and one of them tipped $1000 and the other tipped $2000. Im at a total loss!!! Same thing with the DJ and MC. I got answers that are sooo different. I really dont know whats appropriate!!

$2000 for the maitre d?????? WOAH. That's waaaaaaaay too much in my mind. I think $400 or so would be fine for a wedding of 150. $45 is $3 a person ... isn't $3-5 the range?

Your RH should tell you what to tip the Maitre D.

I think I was told $700 which I find absurd. 700 dollars is not a tip, IMHO!! What is the 20% service charge that I'm paying go to? Yes, of course you should tip, but a TIP, not a weekly salary!

Do whatever your budget can allow but I think customary is about 3-5 per person . So anywhere between the $450 to $750 mark you should be fine.

Im also mad at myself for even asking about tipping. Shouldn't tipping be for excellent service? And how hould I even know how the service is if I havn't experienced it yet? This totally frustrates me!!!

That being said, I dont want to be counting money at the wedding and sorting it out. SO I do want to have it prepared...

our RH told us to tip $3-$5 pp for the maitre d. we ended up tipping them $350, and we had 100 people.

I've heard $3-$5 per guest is the range for tipping, but don't forget that this is not a mandatory amount...you tip according to what you can afford and according to the service you receive.

If the matre'd and/or servers under-perform, don't be afraid to under-tip (they'll learn their lesson that way), and if they exceed your expectations you may want to reward them with a large tip.

I would suggest not sealing the tip envelope until you're ready to leave and adjust it according to how you feel.

I think I am doing about 2-3$ a person. I know I have to tip them and they deserve it but seriously I am not tipping them more than I make in a week or two of work! Sorry NOT happening!!

I am having 175 guest + and probably tipping about $400-500. I say do what you feel comfortable with

we had all our envelopes prepared, and locked in the safe, but we didn't seal them until the end when we were ready to give them out, just incase we felt someone deserved more or less. turns out, we didn't adjust the amts in the envelope.
