That post says M. Fortunoff..... so does that only mean Manhattan? Or is that the flagship store?

My mother works for them and told me the other night that they are filing chapter 11. Supposedly this has happened before and they work their way out of it. Let's hope they find a way out of it again!

omg that would be AWESOME!! can u imagine the SALES they'd have going out of business.. they have such great stuff.. if they had a liquidation sale i'd have to take a day off of work.

Business file for Chapter 11 all the time. It doesn't mean the business is closing. Chapter 11 means they're filing for bankruptcy protection from their creditors. That's all. It allows them time and frees up their money for turnaround/restructuring. Don't worry about your registries there or rewards dollars or anything, I doubt Fortunoff is going anywhere anytime soon.

Yea I heard that too- I just hired a girl last week that works there and she wanted to leave because her marketing budget got slashed- always the first thing to happen before chapter 11

Chapter 11 is just a reorganization bankrupcy. . .its not like liquidation where they have to sell everything- which means that they will probably be able to continue business. A reorganization bankruptcy is a bankruptcy where the debtor reorganizes/restructures assets and debts. They do it in order to retain assets and pay creditor claims out of the their income.

So - chances are no big sales in the near future!!! But hey, who knows

This isn't the first time they filed Chapter 11 -- it happened a few years back too.

i think worse case senario is someone would buy them and still keep the fortunoff name
