Stonybrook U for Nursing

Did anyone attend their accelerated BSN program? How was your experience?

I did not go there, but I have heard its very demanding, and its also very competitive- hard to get into! They only take 30 or so students each year! Good luck!

It is very very competitive...when I was going to stony brook and thinking about going into nursing they told me you basically had to have a 4.0 to get in.

Not true! My friend is there now and although very competative, she did not have a 4.0. She had a good GPA though, definately
over a 3.3. She got into the accelerated BSN program after taking some pre-reqs at suffolk community! My other friend is at Molloy, somewhat less competative but more expensive??!

No, that's not the accelerated program. The accelerated is even more competitive than the regular 2-year program, and requires a bachelor's degree to get in. They take between 5 and 10% each year. It's not based on GPA alone, but also demonstrated interest in the nursing field and prior work experience.

The 2-year program is competitive, but not as competitive as the 1-year, post bachelor program.

She is in the accelerated full year program due to her prior work history an the fact she already had a BS from Geneseo. I definately know she did not have a 4.0. She just needed to take another chemistry class at Suffolk to fullfill the pre-req.

Ahh gotcha. When you said she took the prereqs at Suffolk I assumed she didn't have a bachelor's. And I work there so I know more about the programs than I would want to!

Thanks for the guidance! I'm in the process of applying and, judging by the application alone, I can see it's very demanding. Just thought I'd give it a shot though.
