So this morning as I am pulling out of my apartment complex this lady comes running over to my car waving her arms. I roll the window down and she says she just missed her bus and wants to know if I can drive her to the outside of the complex or something to catch the bus. Having watched ALOT of TV and being afraid of strangers, I said no. She looked pissed and I fear my car may end up scratched now in retribution, but.....
Would you let a stranger into your car - ever? I feel a little bad cause I totally saw said bus as I pulled otu of the complex (never caught up to it), but if she pulled out a gun and stole my car, that would TOTALLY be my luck.

Re: Strangers
I don't think I would let a stranger into my car, man or woman. She may have been pissed and she may seek retribution but at least you are alive and at work so you can post on NWR.

Re: Strangers
You did the right thing.
One night my DH and I stopped to help this drunk fool push his car to the side of the street. My DH, being temporarily insane, offered to drop this guy at the nearest gas station (which wasnt particularly close) and the guy started going nuts, cursing in the back of the car when we were going to leave him to get his gas and go home.
You never know what people will do.
Better safe than sorry.

Re: Strangers
suz, you did the right thing. I would have offered her my cell phone to call someone she KNOWS, but no, never ever....never ever ever...should you do that.
if she was in your position, she hopefully would have done the same, and therefore should understand.

Re: Strangers
i think you are 110% correct!! you would be insane to let ANYONE in your car when you are alone.
if you were the woman who missed the bus - would you ask a stranger for a ride??
lord knows i wouldnt. i would just have to wait for the next one.

Re: Strangers
There's a lot of the same people I see during my morning commute. If it was somebody I've seen on regular basis or one of my neighbors, I would definitely offer a ride.

Re: Strangers
When I first got my licence & a car I offered a ride to an old lady who had just gotten out of Bingo & was waiting at a bus stop. So, yeah I think I would.
She looked cold.

OMG Suz, you totally did the right thing!!!!!! I would NEVER let a stranger into my car in this day and age!!!!! It's sad but true, there's all kinds of crazies out there who try to get your sympathies only to do something horrible. You can never be too careful, it's unfortunate but that's the world we live in.

Oh man, you did the right thing. I'm that person who will help a blind person across the street but keep my purse away and closed in case they are trying to trick me. Trust NO ONE!

Re: Strangers
My ex and I once gave a guy 5 bucks in the Barnes and Noble parking lot, where I used to work, because he said he ran out of gas and his car wouldnt start... I learned my lesson, because he came up to us 2 weeks later with the same story - I said 'AGAIN???' And he ran away....
About a month later, a girl came up to me with that story too - I told her no, because someone once lied to me with the same story... She told me she understood and walked away....
Its a shame we live in a world like this where we get screwed for helping people, so we never want to help random people again....

You did the right thing! I'd only let someone in my car if I know them.... You never know she could have been crazy!
