I have a little pet peeve about strapless gowns and now I think I'm going to be guilty of my own pet peeve...
At my fitting they pulled the chest area in real tight and it made my 'skin' (fat roll) hang over the dress. Maybe they're taking in too much? I hate that look and it made me feel so ugly - I wanted to lose about 8 pounds before the wedding, but I didn't think I was that bad! I almost wanted to pick another dress... one with LONG sleeves...

Ahhh, the dreaded chicken wings! I know exactly what you mean.... hmmm, are you wearing a corset bra under your dress? If so, make sure it's not too tight and that your boobs aren't being pushed up too much to reduce the chicken wing issue.

Re: strapless dress question
OMG... that is exactly how I described it to my sister... CHICKEN WINGS... I was a competitive gymnast forever and I work out - WHAT IS UP with the darn chicken wings. At 33 my stupid boobs hang like a darn 60 y.o. which leads me to the bra dilema...
The C cup size bra - the cups hung out away from my boobs - hate that look. The B seems to fit them well, but then when the pinned the dress, it was like 'HELLO' where did THAT come from??? The seemstress told me they need to keep it tight b/c with a heavy dress it won't stay up. I mean, it makes sense, but...
I just don't like the 'overdone' cleavage thing. I was looking for a very sophisticated look, not to look like a sack of potatoes or some chicken's mama!
Serioulsy, did I make a mistake with going with a strapless gown? Someone asked me recently why I did a strapless gown. I'm going to be an ugly bride... okay, I'm having the first pre-wedding meltdown.

OMG, you are SO not going to be an ugly bride!!!!! And honestly, the chicken wing issue is most usually only something we see on ourselves and it seems much worse than it is. What your seamstress says about the dress needing to be tight in order to not slip down makes total sense.
But seriously, even if you went with a sleeved dress or spaghetti strap dress, you could still have the same issue - depending on where the sleeve or strap begins. I wouldn't worry about it and seriously, you will look BEAUTIFUL on your day!

I HATE that too!! The last BM dress I wore was strapless and I was afraid of the same thing happened. BUT the seamstress told me as long as they make the waist tight enough, they can make the very top of the dress a little looser so that it doesn't cause any unnecessary bulges. She said that if the waist area is snug, the dress won't fall down bc the dress won't be able to slip around your b*tt. Which makes better sense to me than making the top/chest area tighter. I had her do this and it looked great!

I agree with this, maybe you can mention this to your seamstress.

OMG...this is the reason that I didn't get a strapless...I've been telling people about it and they thought I was CRAZY...I got a halter instead...I think that if the top of the dress is up high enough it will cover the 'problem.' Definitely mention it to your seamstress.

Re: strapless dress question
My only concern about making the waiste/butt area tighter is that if you sit, can't you rip your dress?
As for the halter - yes, that was supposed to be the style I was going for. It was by freak accident that I saw this dress and really loved it. I mean it's beautiful for the price, the detail is incredible, yet not overbearing at all. As my mother even said the dress is gorgeous, I'm just questioning whether it's gorgeous on me now
I'm getting a little frustrated with Macy's bridal too as I feel very rushed and like the seemstress/salespeople are just telling me what I want to hear to get me out quickly instead of listening to my concerns and trying to find ways to help.
I'm hearing alternatives like sewing in cups into the dress... it worked for my sister... this way they are a little more custom too.

Re: strapless dress question
I'm hoping the seemstress will take the time to discuss it with me... I mean I know they are busy, but they spent a lot of time with me before I ordered the dress, now I get the one, two, three and the next thing I know the salesperson is unzipping me. I don't love that. Especially when I made an appointment. Not to sound like a bridezilla, but they have to know how important it is for us to feel good about our appearance on a day when all eyes are on us. I have panic attacks as is about the fact everyone will be looking at me and I basically make or break the whole event. PRESSURE! And the comments I have heard my family and friends make about the weddings they've been too... I would so cry if anyone ever said those things about me or my wedding. My family and friends must be very harsh...
