Does anyone know if you are allowed to wear a strapless dress in the church? I know this may be a silly question but I dont know how to ask the church. I feel funny coming out and saying 'how much skin am I allowed to show?'

Re: Strapless Dresses in the Church
My friend put a wrap on over hers.. and she had spaghetti straps.. it was because her MIL didn't want her to expose her shoulders in church.. the church was fine with it.

You have to ask your church. Mine was fine with it but my the church my SIL is using does not even want the bridesmaids in strapless dresses!!! They have to wear shawls even though it is summer

Re: Strapless Dresses in the Church
Thanks! We are not getting married in our church because it is too small...so I feel funny asking at this new church. But I guess if all else fails I could wear a shawl. I hope it is OK though. I think a shawl would take away from the dress. I think I may attend a wedding there this weekend and see what the bride is wearing.
Anyone get married in a Greek Orthodox Church and wear a strapless dress?

Yeah, I think it's up to each individual church. My friend got married in a Catholic Church and wasn't allowed to bear her shoulders -so she wore a wrap for the ceremony.

Re: Strapless Dresses in the Church
my very close friend wore a strapless dress in a greek orthodox church. i noticed that her veil covered her shoulders slightly and i also noticed that the mothers and the BMs had wraps aroung their shoulders. I also know that the the bride and her family are Very close with the priest that married her so mabey he let just her get away with it. sorry this was so long....

Re: Strapless Dresses in the Church
Thats a good idea. I can always buy a wrap and then decide later, but I will definately have my BM where the wrap...maybe if everyone else is covered up they will let the bride slide.
Thanks for the the feedback.

I wore one and my BM had spaghetti straps my church was OK with it.
Did you ask ahead of time or did you just wing it?

Technically, Jewish brides are supposed to have their shoulders covered as well. Most don't give you a hard time about it.

I am having a jacket made (Jewish) my father, a rabbi, just seemed more comfortable that way.

Re: Strapless Dresses in the Church
Check with the church, mine never even mentioned it. However a friend is gettign married this August and her Church has made numerous comments on how the fown upon it! But as her MOH said, what are they going to do, throw you out?
My SIL has a wrap with her strapless and it was really nice because it was almost as if she had a ceremony dress and a reception dress because they looked different!

Re: Strapless Dresses in the Church
It depends on your Priest...
My church in Riverhead was fine with it..
Some Priests do not like it and will not allow you to be in the church without a wrap on..

Re: Strapless Dresses in the Church
This may sound silly but is there a place on this website where we can find the meaning to some of these abbr. like MOH?
