Just a quick question. I was reading some posts and they were talking about the fact that they had to have something covering their shoulders? Is that required in the Catholic Church? My daughter is getting married and I was just wondering. I told her to add it to her list of questions for them. I also just read that some churches don't ALLOW you to take YOUR flowers from the alter after the ceremony! I can't believe that. Thanks.
UPDATE: My daughter called our church. The woman in the office said it's no problem having a strapless dress as long as nothing is 'hanging out'!! As for the flowers, she said whatever we bring in, we take when we leave. She said they may even have flowers there already for the weekend so we'll see. Thanks for all your input!

Re: Strapless wedding gown in church?
I have heard of this before- I believe it depends on the church itself. Some have rules like this that others do not. Def ask the church about this.

Re: Strapless wedding gown in church?
I don't think most churches give you a hard time about strapless gowns. I know they used to, but it doesn't hurt to ask your church because there are a few out there that still won't allow it. I know our priest answered the question before it was even asked because he said he heard it a lot.
As for flowers--again ask your church. My church won't let me take the flowers for the altar, but I will be taking my pew bows and extra arrangements that I may bring in.

Re: Strapless wedding gown in church?
No it's not a catholic church thing - it's an individual church thing.
I'm getting married at a Catholic church and strapless dresses are not a problem - my gown and BM dresses are strapless (as was my SIL's gown and her BM dresses).
Check with your church!

Re: Strapless wedding gown in church?
I would ask. At worse, you can be 'sneaky' and just have a very full veil and use it to 'wrap yourself' up.
yes not all catholic churches do that, only a few still do ... my friends sister's church is asking to have something covering the shoulders but it's not all churches.

Re: Strapless wedding gown in church?
I think you really need to ask the church.
I know if Jewish tradition you need to cover your shoulders as a sign of modesty and that you aren't trying to flaunt something. (Or something like that). Most temples require it if you are married there, however if not there, i've heard it may depend on the rabbi.
I don't know if its the same for catholic

It is definitly an indivdual chruch thing - a co-worker of mine got married in Saint A's & her gown was strapless.
