STRESS I DON'T NEED!! UPDATED

My wedding is in 18 days. I live and work in Manhattan. I have a BM who lives out of state (in Boston) - but I ordered her dress in NY (Long Island) with all the other BM. I was supposed to go up there to deliver the dress, but it never happened. My sister is going to Boston this weekend. So my sister is doing me a HUGE favor by driving the dress up. She was going to have her fitting today, pick up the other BM's dress and take it to Boston.

Well my sister just called and told me she can't make it to the store today and she is leaving straight from work tomorrow. Something came up and I totally understand, but I am meeting with my videographer today at 8:30 at my apartment and its a mess. I had planned on coming home after work and cleaning.

So now my options are after work I have to take the LIRR to LI- take a cab to teh store, take a cab back to the LIRR with the dress and take the dress on the LIRR to Manhattan- then a subway to my apartment and then clean up. OR my FH who works in LI (in syosset- the dress is in Lynbrook)- can cross LI and pick it up for me- totally out of his way. Problem with that is he is almost at work already and he can't pick it up on the way home because if he does, he will miss the Videographer meeting (unless he leaves early).

ARGHHHH!!! I didn't do anything all weekend- had I known, I would have picked it up then. I know my sister is doing me a HUGE favor by driving this up- and she feels so bad about this, but this is just not the kind of stress I need. did I mention I am leaving on a business trip tomorrow and need to prepare???!!! AARRGHHHHHH!!!!

Can you have the store ship it (Fedex) insured directly to her in Boston and you pay the fee? Hang in there.

Re: STRESS I DON'T NEED!!

Can't the store messenger it to your sister's home? What if you arrange it and pay for it? Or any other family members? Any LIWers home today that can help out??
Sorry you have to deal with all this.

I agree... Walsh Messenger Service is great. I'm sorry I don't have their direct number; but it would totally take the weight off your shoulders.

That would be my suggestion too!

Take a deep breath. It will all work out.

Can one of your other BM pick it up and bring it to your sister?

Re: STRESS I DON'T NEED!!

Maybe you can ask the store to fed ex them to boston. I'm sure you'd have to pay, but at least its less stress.

Re: STRESS I DON'T NEED!!

The store can't messenger it to anyone. What we may do is go Saturday and pick up the dress adn then mail it. ARGGHHH!!! So we have to get to LI before the post office closes at 1:00!! We have an engagement party in LI at 7:00! Stress!!

Re: STRESS I DON'T NEED!!

You can ship it other ways, like Fedex or UPS and use one of the Mailboxes store or Kinkos. You don't have to worry about the post office. I hope this helps. Remember to insure it before you send it. I know this sucks, but it will work out.

Shelly - there's a 24 hour post office in Hicksville, near my office. Can I help?

Why won'tthe store fedex it to her? I think that would be the easiest solution for you. Good Luck!

Re: STRESS I DON'T NEED!!

That is so sweet! Thank you. We know about that Post office also-- but it is pretty far from where the engagement party is. We will manage- and thank you all for your support and ideas! Maybe we will fedex it- (I hate UPS). Its just who needs this kind of stress, ever- let alone a few weeks before the wedding!

Re: STRESS I DON'T NEED!!

One of my coworkers just walked in & due to her sisters wedding changes they had to overnight her dress to her from NY to California. Her tips were to get it to the US post office when they first open and if you can get it to the main office in Manhattan - even better. She used Priority Mail (1-3 days), added Delivery Confirmation (so you can track it online) and Signature Confirmation (so they knew who signed for it) and Insurance. She said it was easier to use the post office over Fed Ex or UPS because they stop by a 2nd time if the person isn't home & if they can't deliver it they bring it back to the reciever's local post office for pick up and leave a note. She said it can be very difficult to get a package if there was no one to sign & it goes back to a UPS or Fed warehouse b/c it isn't usually local and there is a long wait with crazy hours. I hope this helps - I'm sure you're about now!

Now I know why I am marrying FH. Despite his hectic day and the fact that its 1 1/2 hours out of his way- he is en route to pick up the dress. G-d, I love this man.
