Stress! The parents are meeting each other!!!
So, this weekend is the big 'Meet the Fockers' weekend for FH and I.
My 'rents flew in last night from FL. They're here because on Saturday there will be a memorial mass for my grandma. FH's parents want to come to the mass - while they never met my grandma before she passed away last month, they were there for me through all the bad stuff when her health rapidly declined.
Little background here - because of schedules, my parents and FH's parents won't be able to get together until Saturday morning, just before the mass starts. Also, as I've mentioned before, FH's family is Muslim. This will be the first time his folks will ever be in a Catholic church and I am overjoyed that they are stepping into such unknown territory - even though the reason we're all getting together is a sad one.
My family is Irish. Following the mass, we're having a brunch catered at a family member's house. Basically, it'll be like an Irish wake. Alcohol will be served (in abundance); FH's family doesn't go near alcohol.
As if that wasn't enough of a mindf**k, my aunt called me up and asked me to do a reading at the church. I have no fear of public speaking, but in front of the FIL's makes me
I do have FH explaining to his folks about the presence of alcohol, and that it's not in any kind of disrespect to the deceased person, it's just a part of our culture to celebrate the life following the grieving.
On the bright side, this Sunday (after the first session of 'Meet the Fockers'), we'll all be going t the Swan Club so both sets of parents can see the RH - I have to say, I am very excited about THAT.
Sorry so long!
