I don't post on here often but not sure where else to go to vent. So it's two weeks till my wedding and my future father in law was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer today. He is scheduled for surgery next friday (9 days before the wedding) and the doctors are saying not to expect him to be able to attend the wedding, and fh is already looking into cancelling the the honeymoon. I cant even be excitied that my wedding is in two weeks. Iv'e been dreaming of this day my whole life and it's crumbling to peices. I dont even know what to do at this point.

I'm so sorry you have to go through this! DH's dad never came to our wedding for similar reasons, although in all honesty his were also semi selfish, and I know it was hard on DH. But we weren't about to let it stop us.
Did you get insurance on your honeymoon? If so, can you push it back? And can you ask your vendors/hall to post-pone because this is definitely a family emergency.
If not, then you'll just need to go through with it as planned. I'm sure FFIL will probably say something like 'don't let me ruin your day' or something along those lines.
Good luck!

It really stinks that something beyond your control is affecting your future father in law. He must be crushed that he will not be able to go to your wedding. I am wishing him a speedy recovery.
As for the honeymoon, same thing the bride before me asked, do you have insurance where you can push the date?

Re: stressed beyond belief
I understand...My nephews (age 6) was just diagosed with cancer and we are all so sad and worried. I feel sad trying to do wedding stuff and I feel like in the scheme of things in feels wrong...BUT, I was told to keep the wedding plans and try to enjoy the day the best I can. My brother and the family cannot travel and will be with us in spirit..I plan on emailing pictures to them and the hosptial for my nephew to see. As for the honeymoon, I would take a day or so for a special time with hubby (can be local) and wait and ENJOY the honeymoon when you know what is going to happen. This is his father and he needs to be there for him...You will enjoy yourselves better when things are resolved. Good luck...I am sure your wedding will be beautiful.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. Thankfully we do have travelers insurance. Were going to wait and see what happens with the surgery before deciding to cancel anything. Thanks for letting me share, i felt like this was the only place i could be selfish for a second and think about my wedding, no i have to go be strong for fh and prayer for the best.

I am so sorry that your FH, his family and you have to go through this at all and especially before your wedding. It really does make you remember how precious life and family are. I hope his dad makes a speedy recovery. Good luck to all of you.
ETA: as far as the honeymoon. I would suggest what someone else suggested and stay somewhere close by and postpone the trip if you can. Once everything calms down you will be able to go on a vacation that both of you will be able to enjoy without distractions.

Worse comes to worse you can always do the actual day of things and push the honeymoon off until you feel more comfortable going.
You can always come here to vent! Good luck!!

That is terrible news I used to work for an oncologist so I know how that news can be on a family. Keep your head high. Feel free to vent here. You know you cant vent to FH about this ruining your day. Be positive! Things don't necessarily need to ruin your day. There might be hope for him!
Good Luck with everything. We are all here for you

I'm really sorry to hear I know this is a hard situation. Maybe after the surgery he will be doing/feeling better and you won't have to cancel the honeymoon.
