stressed girls, what do i say..

to my mom.
I met her for dinner yesterday and she told me that I am living in sin and that I am not really even engaged, all I am is wearing a ring on my finger pretending to be engaged. She says this bc FH and I havent booked anything yet...and I tell her that its bc we dont have any money to put deposits down (for the love of god I have $30 dollars in my bank account, i dont even have enough money to put gas in my car...) and she says then why dont I move back home and call the engagement off...W T F???
i am so tired of my parents trying to guilt me into moving back home and trying to get me to break the engagement...I love LOVE LOVE my FH more than anything in the world and they cant see that...
this is just so annoying I dont know what to say or think anymore...

Thanks for letting me vent girls!

Sorry to hear that. Our parents come from a different time and really don't understand what we go through at times. She'll come around.

Ohhh thats terrible...Im sorry that your mom said those things to you. She probably just doesnt understand. Did she offer to help you put down any deposits? Tell her that if she was willing to help you pay for things than maybe it would be possible to begin the planning.

Ok so it seems as if you are trying very hard to please your mother. At this point I would tell her that financially you are unable to plan a wedding and when you are ready financially then you will have no problem planning away. Tell her that living in sin went out the window years ago also...(I know some people are old school-but that is old)

Ok I went through the same thing with my parents a few months ago. I moved up to Connecticut to be with FH and we were not engaged. I come from a traditional old-fashioned family. They thought we were living in sin as well. Once we got engaged, they were much happier. They were upset I moved b/c they thought I should stay at home and save money. Plus, I am in the middle of finishing my MBA at stony brook, so I come home every weekend.

I think the bottom line is parents always want to protect their children. They would do ANYTHING for you and just want to make sure you are making the right decisions. My parents are VERY over-protective.

I would just talk with you mom and assure her you are doing fine. Tell her your feelings without yelling or getting nasty. Just have a heart to heart. If she knows how you feel then she will feel better. Plus, tell her how you feel offended, she probably doesn't even know she hurt you.

You know she loves you and just has your best interest at heart.

I'm sorry you're having trouble with your mom

Maybe you can suggest she come to look at RHs with you? It might help her see you are planning and also make her feel involved in your wedding.
