YES! I have to do my report cards because conferences start next week! ACK! I also have to work on my job target (which is a project that replaces formal observations) because my mid-year evaluation is past due, AND my class science project... I feel your pain!!!

Re: stressed out teacher!
So how many days do we have left????????
Are you all being bombarded with Staff Development too? Are yours worthwhile at all? Are district's focus this year is to make all of us a reading teacher.
So they hire this guy and the poor soul has to meet with us, the foreign language department. So here it is September. I can think of 10,000 other things that I can be doing besides sitting with this man until 5:30. I am not happy. So, he said what reading problems do you notice with your students. He is looking right at me--
1) I hate speaking in meetings. 2) I hate being put on the spot. 3) I don't want to be a reading teacher
So, I say 'Well, my students don't read directions even when they are in English. They want me to tell them what to do. Other than that they read the alphabet just fine at this point and I am happy with that at this point in the year. So he is looking at me all confused. He knew had secondary level. He did not realize that our kids were beginners at Foreign Languages. He must have thought that we were ESL teachers. Guess he didn't read his memo!

Re: stressed out teacher!
UGH! IEPs! I'm the friggin music teacher in a special ed school, I am not trained in anything when it comes to special ed. I didn't even know what an IEP was until I started 4 months ago, and they put ME!!!!!! in there because we are short staffed and teachers are quitting left and right! I don't know what I'm doing! Nor do I care about it! Then, I get put on 'suicide watch' something else I am not qualified or trained to deal with, and my supervisor puts me in the middle of parents and students arguing! I'M THE MUSIC TEACHER! IF IT DOESN'T HAVE TO DO WITH MUSIC, I DON'T KNOW THE ANSWER!
*Suicide watch for the kids, to clarify. We're a sped school for emotionally disturbed kids.

I am so sorry that you are in the position. The is horrible. Is this a private school. I wish I had known sooner our chorus teacher quit in the beginning of the year! We could have used you! Or maybe we can switch you with our general music teacher-- the woman is completely insane!

Re: stressed out teacher!
I wish swags! This job is NOT what I was expecting. If I knew anything at all about the things I would be asked to do, I certainly would have turned the position down! I thought about reporting some of the things that go on there when I leave in June, but I think that's just too evil for me to really do. But what a fantasy it is!

Re: stressed out teacher!
As bad as things are there you really don't want to do that -- you will need their recommendation for another job. Are you MA or NY?

Oh, I would NEVER really report them. I mean, for all the wrong things that go on there, there are many things going right. I just think about the things that I would report though. It's insane some days. I'm currently in MA, but will be moving back to the island in July. I've had enough here.

Re: stressed out teacher!
Have you been checking the NY times or the NYSED for jobs yet? Believe it or not, you should start doing that ASAP. My district is known for being a late hirer and we are actually already interviewing!

Re: stressed out teacher!
Yes, I am already looking. So far, nothing has been in my area of music. They are mostly looking for string teachers, and I want to be either band or general music. Unfortunately, my certification in NY is not done yet. I am certified in MA, but it doesn't transfer until after 3 years! But this counts as my student teaching, and then I have one more class to take in July. I was strictly a performer until an injury in my arm, so I had to go a bit backwards in the process, but I am almost there!

Re: stressed out teacher!
I am not a teacher, but my Fh is one and so was my dad. I give u all a lot of credit, it is a rough job, try to take it easy, take a deep breath, and u will get thru it. My Fh is going crazy also this time of year, with deadlines, conferences, etc ,and the kids are getting nuts becuase there is no break until easter- Passover vacation.
