Stressing a lil about guestlist

Original post by FutureJOC

So yesterday I took at look at the guest list again and realized I don't think I actually added up all these people (some people had been added after the initial guest list was made - mind you FH's side is still not done at all).

I almost wanted to VOM b/c when I added it up it was close to 200, and like I said, FH's side is still not finished! We have a min of 130 and I wanted at most for the list to be around 160. I know there are a few people in there that I have to invite as a curtiosy but I know won't come, but that still brought us no where close to 160.

Well, I printed the lists out and gave FH's his and I took mine and I said, 'Start to Cut!' After all was said and done, we got the list down to 165. I told FH that this weekend (maybe Friday) we need to go to his parent's house and sit down with them and get a solid list together (I told him we can hold off on addresses). I don't want to stress out about this further than this wknd.

Vent over... thanks girlies!

LOL, I'm telling everyone, if you have guests who just want to go to A wedding, not necessarily YOUR wedding, I Think WE are going to need seat fillers, lol, send em on over to me!

oh that's good to know! I will send my extras to you!

Create a B list and keep in mind about 20% of your invitees likely won't come.

Is this really true?? I really have to limit my guest list; there are people that i 'Have' to invite; i feel like everyone I invite will be there...i don't know if i can count on 20% not coming. It would be good for the head count; but i don't know if that's realistic??

I don't know- 20% sounds like a lot. I feel like it really depends on your family and your situation. This might hold true if you have a lot of OOT guests, which thankfully FH does, but I'd rather assume everyone is coming rather than get a nasty surprise later on and have TOO many guests and not be able to afford it or have space for them.

20% does sound like a lot....various halls told us to plan for 15-20% no-show - and when we went through our list of likely to show up it went from invited 148 to 125, so close to that 20% mark. Another suggestion is you invite the exact # of people from your A list as you can fit, and for every 'no' you get back send out an invite to someone on your B list.

I'm having a small wedding; trying not to go over 75 guests; so i'm thinking most of the people we invite which are close friends & family will be there no matter what. But in the rare case that they can't then I think i like that-i plan on sending the invites out early enough that if i get a 'No' from someone on the A list then i'll be able to mail one to those on the B list.

Also i wanted to add...how do you handle questions from people who are on your 'B' list?? FH & I keep getting a TON of questions from people like when's the big day; where are you having it. And even though we say we're having something small i think they still assume they're getting an invite (i'm not talking about close friends; i'm talking about people we see once every couple of months or weeks). Once we start to finalize these plans how do you keep them at bay if they're on the 'B' list until they posisbly get bumped to the 'A' list??

I'll be a seat filler! I LOVE weddings!!!

and Jessie- my minimum is at 125. Our list is at 201 without co-workers which will add another 25ish. We were hoping to keep the list to 150.. soo not happening. I feel your pain.

How did you end up cutting the list? lol I can't figure out how to cut anyone. It's awful.

I had a lot of of people that I didn't necessarily put them down as a B List, but they were a B list compared to the others, so I just cut. Plus I had some family members with guests (like my 2 aunts and a couple of older cousins) that when I spoke to my mom she said there was no need to invite with a guest because they are not with anyone, so I took away their guest. I really don't want to do it but I am up in the air about inviting co-workers with guests - as of right now they have a guest but if it comes down to it, I may have to do some more cutting.

As of right now my co-workers aren't getting a +1 I decided.. everyone else will (friends) but I'm even considering getting rid of some of their +1s even though I don't want to.

If I gave my co-workers a +1 it would be another 50 people as opposed to 25.. that would bring my list over 250. That can NOT happen lol
