my hair stylist is in manhattan and i have to pick him up the day before the wedding....now, he said i can pick him up at like 4 but i am stressed about the rehersal dinner and what not. ALSO, where th ehell does he stay? do i put him up in a hotel or do i let him stay at my co-op because FH and i are staying at our houses where we grew up.... any adivce??

that sounds a little bizarre - why does he need to come to LI the day before? it's an easy train ride the day of the wedding, that you can just reimburse him for, no?
if he won't take the train, why not just check out prices to send a town car to get him the day of? that would be cheaper than a hotel room.
or maybe he has friends on LI he can stay with?

i know you would be worried, but i think its easier if he comes out that morning. esp since your wedding is at 3, so its not like you have to get ready at 5am

Are you like friends with him that you wouldn't mind him staying at your coop?? Maybe we don't understand your relationship with him. I like the idea of having a town car pick him up the day of the wedding.

Why do you have to worry about his transporation? If he agreed to come to you, he should have factored his travel arrangement in what he is charging you.
You have enough things to worry about right before the wedding.

I would have been like... the same way you get the to salon! Or better yet, hand him a LIRR train schedule.
Like the other ladies said, give him the number to a few car service copanies. Let him make his own arrangements. Tell him that you'll reimburse him for travel costs.

that sounds good too. i mean, i have yet to stress and when he called me today i thought my blood pressure was going to kill me!
so when i go for a trial this week, i should just say, about the travel arrangements....i will have a town car pick you up that day....i am just so scared of traffic!!!
thats why i kinda wanted him here the day before. but i really cant go into the city and get him and then come home and go to my rehersal dinner

I like the town car idea. I understand you are concerned about traffic but anything can happen and getting him the day before is way to stressful!!!!!!!!! Maybe use the town car the day before but tell him that if that is the plan he has to pay for his lodging. I would feel weird having him stay at my home without me.

Frankly, it sounds like it's time to find someone else to do your hair. He's a professional, right? I don't understand why he's not acting like one.
I don't mean to be harsh, but I've never heard of someone expecting you to get them transportation if they will come to you on the day of your wedding. If he doesn't want to come to you, then he shouldn't, but the onus isn't on you to get him there!

Jess- IMO this all sounds a little 'shady.' I would just have him come in the morning of. This is his job as a professional to get from point a to point b on his own and in a timely manner- this should not be all on you!!!

this shouldn't be any different than any other vendors - I'm not picking up my florist or my band - and they can hit traffic too! I understand he's from Manhattan and I don't know where you live on LI but I travel back and forth by car all the time and while there is often traffic, I still make it there. Just leave earlier. Saturday mornings are not as bad as Friday nights.

why in the world would you let a complete stranger stay at your home??? like what the hell? sorry if i am being blunt but what is this guys problem? i am sorry if noone else sees this but there is absolutely NO WAY your hairdresser deserves personal service from you - you are paying him - he needs to get his own way there and if he cant then he needs to be shown the curb - there is noone so fabulous that they deserve to have a towncar sent for them to wisk him in the lap of luxury to come do your hair - give me a break here ! tell him to grow up and get himself there or find someone else to do your hair - have to put up your hairdresser in a hotel ? what's next - hiring a limo to bring in your florist ? goodness now i have heard it all ...

who the hell is he ? the pope ?? - If you're PAYING him and he agreed to come to you that day - it's HIS responsibility to get to you ON TIME - don't you dare send a town car for him !! give me a break !! it's not up to you to treat HIM like royalty !! HE gets paid to treat YOU that way !!!
