Stressing over dress size ordered...

Hi ladies. Two days ago I was so excited I had finally ordered my dress but now I am freaking out over the size the guy ordered for me. I've been doing Jenny Craig and have lost 33 lbs in just under 3 months. My wedding is in June and I'm looking to drop another 25 - 30 lbs. (By the way, that may sound like a high number but I'm very tall and had put on a ton of weight in the past few years so that would simply get me back to a normal healthy size). I told the dress store that but they gave me one of those incredulous 'All brides say that' look. Today in regular clothes, I'm a size 12. They ordered me an 18! I had heard that wedding dresses almost always run small so wasn't going to panic if they ordered a large sized dress but now I am. To me, dropping 10 or so more lbs wouldn't be a big deal but dropping another large amount...I'm just so worried that it will ruin the 'look' of the dress if too many alterations are needed. The dress is ordered so I don't think I can go back now and say order even a 16. I just feel so stupid for not having taken a step back and pushed a little harder to be 'heard'. Uggh. Sorry for the long vent - I just feel so anxious right now. Has anyone else had any issues like this? I welcome any feedback. Thanks.

Don't worry! I, too, am tall (6 feet) and am losing weight. I went with the size I was at the time of the first measurement. It can ALWAYS be altered to fit - better too big than too small. You NEVER know what can happen to a diet, so even if you maintain and don't lose any more, you'll look beautiful and feel comfortable in the dress.

Definitely stay with the size that you currently are. You never know how your body will react to losing more weight. Just rest assured that the dress will definitely fit and it can always be taken in. Much easer to take in than let out!

Keep in mind that wedding dress sizes are dramatically different than regular sizes. I'm planning on losing about 20 pounds and my bridal attendant in the salon told me you'd have to lose more than 3 regular dress sizes for it to be so big that you'd have to reorder the dress because you couldnt really alter it that much. I'm sure there's enough time to reorder when it comes in if that's really necessary.

I would ask them to reorder a smaller size. Congrats on the weight loss. They may not have placed the order yet, its probably not too late. I didn't order my dress for my July wedding until around this time.
I lost one dress size, and they did alterations, and it was fine, but it sounds like you may be loosing 3-4 dress sizes. Go in, have them measure you again, and see if they can do anything. If they can't, I'm sure it will be fine, but if they can, I think it would be better to have the dress closer to your actual size.
Don't be mad at yourself, they usually am adamant about not ordering smaller sizes, because its true, so many girls say they are going to loose weight and they don't, and then they are totally screwed.
You will be fine no matter what, but if you could oder down, go for it!

I am a bit confused. Why did they order you a size 18, if you are currently a size 12? Do they think you are going to gain the weight back??? If that is the case, I would definitely get on the phone and see what you can do. If anything, they wouldn't start making your dress till Monday (tomorrow). Call tomorrow and tell them that you want them to order you a size 14. If they refuse, ask to talk to the manager. The manager will work with you. They have to. I know what you mean with the dress not looking right. Especially the chest area.

Don't worry at all! I have my moments of panic here and there as well... Ya see...when I went to the place I bought my dress they only had it in size 10. I was able to get it on...but my boobs were just a bit too bit, so I wasn't able to fully close it. They made me order a size 16 even though I kept saying to make it smaller. They went right off a chart...and kept reasurring me that they can take it in and look like it was made for me. I have faith in them. Also, I'd rather have it too large then not big enough! Best of luck.

Re: Stressing over dress size ordered...

According to the Casablanca size chart, something with my measurements must have made me an 18 - please, I have no idea how that is possible. I do have a large chest but the rest of me wasn't even close to a size 18 when I was 33 lbs heavier. It is so frustrating. Thanks for the input ladies. I think I am going to call tomorrow just to look at the size chart for even a 16...I have a great seamstress who has done beautiful work in the past for me so I'm hoping it will all be fine even if it is big...I guess with all the intricate beadwork, I'm just freaked out that taking it in would alter the look.

Formal dress sizes are never street sizes, so while in regular clothing you may wear a 12, it's not unheard of to measure to a 16 or an 18 in formal dresses.
I would go back to the dress shop, get remeasured and then compare the measurements to the dress size 16 and the dress size 18.
Most important thing is to fit your largest measurement. If you are in between a 16 and 18, then have the shop order you a 16. Explain again without too much detail (none of their biz) about your weight loss over the past 3 months and your continuing with it.
Good luck ! and congrats on the weight loss !

I just went to a dress shop and they said all their brides lose weight and they are fine with alterations and one bride lost 100 pounds!! and they were fine with it.
Don't worry!

I'm going through the same thing with Casablanca (I had to get a 16 and I'm a 10 in street clothes). My attendant told me the reason for the weird chart is because Casablanca caters to a curvy frame.

I totally didn't believe my attendant, but I just got the dress back and it fits like a glove!

Re: Stressing over dress size ordered...

I would not worry too much- The sizes on bridal gowns are crazy!! I wear a size two and my wedding gown was ordered in a size 10 b/c of my measurements. My gown fits across my chest (my largest measurement) and the rest of the dress will have to be taken in a LOT. If you are really worried go back to the shop and have them remeasure you.

If it makes you feel better-I'm a size 8 (sometimes 6) and my gown was ordered in a 14-probably b/c of my apple bum!! LOL
But I'd rather they size it to me NOW while I'm a bit thicker from wintertime/holidays/etc..B/C they can easily take it in..

Thank you so much you guys - no lie - that made me feel so much better. Glad I'm not the only one who feels like they are ordering me something that isn't quite me.
