Strobe lights/DJ's

Strobe lights/DJ's

This weekend FH and I have an engagement party to go to. However, I'm a bit nervous about going.

I had an abnormal EEG (brain wave test with strobe), but with no seizure pattern. Okay, if that's too technical, basically, if flourescent lights flicker creating a 'strobe' - I go into an 'episode'. My episodes are yet to be fully diagnosed, anything from a complicated migraine, seizure of some sort or TIA (mini stroke). I have been getting these every 3 weeks or so since the beginning of 2006 starting week one AND most of them seem to be in sinc with my menstral cycle... also starting this weekend... so I'm due for an episode anyway. I went food shopping with FH last night and when in the milk, cheese aisle, I told FH I had to leave - the flourescent lights were flickering and making me ill...

So do we tell FH's friend to have the DJ turn off the lights or do we take a chance? What would you do if a guest (I'm not even the friend, just a guest) had such a condition?

Also for our wedding, what alternatives to funky lighting are there. Can you imagine I got numb on half my body and get sick at my own wedding?

I am so sorry that happens to you ! I really don't know what I would do in that situation. I hope that everything works out ok for you, and that you feel ok!!!

I would talk to your hosts about the lights asap. Also for your wedding, don't have any lights..they are not necessary for a great party. Your health is more important.

My younger brother has seizures and even though his EEG was normal when they put him in front of a strobe light, I made sure the DJ did not have any strobe lights....If I was the host, I would want to know your situation to make sure there were NO strobe lights there....Like the other poster said, you don't need lights for a great wedding!!! FM me if you need to talk! My brother, who is 21 just started having seizures last year so I know what you are going through.

Thank you so much! I agree that it's just fancy lighting that isn't really necessary. I don't know the bride to be at all and the groom to be is FH's friend. I was thinking that maybe FH could talk to his friend ahead of time.

What a burden I'm becoming

I'm planning on telling the DJ I interview/select that I don't want any special effects - maybe the price will be better Just play music!
